					                   Professional Standards Project Update.

Apologies for me not attending today.

Summary

The group of HiBM club members met at the DOH On the 16 August 2010.

Provisional investigation was carried out and it was found that a number of initiatives are in
train within the Department or Health (Di Millen’s team) some of which could be useful in
taking forward the Professionalism Benchmarking Exercise.

(I would advocate Patrick Dodge and possibly Di Millen attending a future benchmarking
meeting to share some of the work which has been undertaken at the department of health)

Further to this meeting and subsequent meeting with Paul Turner, Patrick Dodge and
                                  th
Christine Walters was held on 6 September to agree a way forward with the scope and data
to be collected. From the information already available via Patrick, a template has been has
been drafted (see appendix 1) which will look at benchmarking professional standards
specifically with the ICT service arena, which would include the following service areas:

     Service/Help Desk
 Technical Services (Server infrastructure & technical project management)
     Voice and Data networks
     Desk Top Engineering

Action: It will be useful to pilot this tool in a few HIS’s in order to asses it validity in collating
the information required.

Action: There is a fair amount of detail in the qualifications section which I would like some
input from other club members.

The analysis will need to be determined but regardless of the job title of individuals if we
agree the service areas then this should give a clear indication of the qualifications per
service rather than focusing on the JD which will probably be significantly different across
HIS’s.

I have shied away from CPD info and kept this very much in scope of qualifications as was
the original brief, I think there is plenty of other more detailed work we could do on this and
feel that the team at the DOH could help facilitate this through our group.

Next Steps Summary:

    1. Agreement of the collection tool (see appendix 1)
    2. Pilot with 2 Benchmarking club members HIS’s
    3. Obtain feedback and make revisions
    4. Agree scope and timescales of the project
    5. Expressions of interest from Club Members
    6. Launch of benchmarking exercise
    7. Analysis and feedback

Action: Tracy, can you let me know who is willing to joining the pilot and who is willing to
feedback on the current data collection tool.

For the tools deadline could this be by the mid to late October.
