WHEELS!
A WebQuest for Family Literacy, Adult Education, ABE and Advanced ESL Students By Astrid Robitaille TEACHER INFORMATION PAGE Purchasing a car can be a daunting task, and one that almost everyone must face at some point in their lives. This WebQuest is designed to lead the learner through a step-by-step process involving how to choose a make and model, research safety records and gather insurance quotes. It would be an appropriate addition to a life skills instruction program, either as an introductory or culminating activity. Recommendations: Learners must have basic computer proficiency skills, including the ability to recognize and follow a hyperlink, navigate a webpage, and print from a webpage. Use of a computer lab or several stand-alone units in the classroom with Internet access. Classroom tools that will allow for teacher modeling (overhead projector, sample web pages, vocabulary lists.) It is strongly recommended that teachers model each part of the Internet activities on a projector or on a computer in small groups before assigning them. Also, it is important to pre-teach the vocabulary in this lesson. Prior knowledge of the key words in this exercise is extremely beneficial. As with any lesson, you may need to modify the tasks to meet your students' special needs and abilities. It is strongly recommended that teachers visit the links prior to assigning the lesson to ensure that the information is presented in an appropriate manner for his/her students. Visiting the links prior to assigning the lesson will help you make decisions about how to introduce each of the tasks.
