‘Malta Movie Map’ helps visitors follow in the footsteps of the Stars Due to Malta’s new-found fame as the ‘Hollywood of the Mediterranean’, with blockbuster movies such as ‘Gladiator’ and the ‘Count of Monte Cristo’ using its landscape and historical buildings as a backdrop, the Malta Tourism Authority has created a new product for tourists: an online ‘Malta Movie Map’. Movie tourism is the latest trend in travel and it adds a new dimension to a destination. Malta’s assets, prehistoric temples, baroque architecture and rich heritage have caught the artistic eye of numerous film and television directors in recent years. The new MTA Movie Map, which shows the locations where Hollywood and TV films were shot in the Maltese Islands as well as photos and star’s biographies, was researched and written by film journalist Daniel Rosenthal. It was created with the co-operation of the Malta Film Commission and the Producer's Creative Partnership. The map was designed by MTA I.T. Senior Executive Cedric Falzon and coordinated by MTA London P.R. and Marketing Executive Adriana Cacciotolo with the assistance of MTA Corporate Communications and Business Development Senior Executive Katya Rossignaud. The Malta Movie Map will be updated regularly. The map was previewed on the Malta stand at World Travel Market in London, where a Brad Pitt look-alike dressed in a costume from upcoming film ‘Troy’ showed visitors how to use the map. The Malta Movie Map will soon be accessible via the MTA’s destination website www.visitmalta.com.
