November 4th 2007 marked the 19th World Music Awards, back in the Principality of Monaco for the first time in several years. The evening was highlighted with performances by the world’s top recording artists, who received awards not by jury vote, but as recognition for their worldwide sales. TOP AWARDS WINNERS Mika won three awards in total – Best British Artist, Best new artist, Best Pop /rock male artist. Rihanna won three awards too – Entertainer of the year, Best R & B Female artist, best Pop female artist Avril Lavigne won two awards – best Pop/rock female artist and best-selling Canadian artist. Akon won three awards –best R&B male artist, best African artist and best Internet artist. Emotion and Passion at the 2007 Awards Ceremony In an emotional speech, announcing Patti Labelle’s Legend Award for outstanding contribution to R&B music, Ciara named Patti as “the High Priestess of Good Vibrations”. Patti’s benevolent attitude was best summed up with her own words. “It’s not about making money, because I don’t need money, but I need to sing.” His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, presenting Celine Dion’s Legend Award, praised the Canadian artist. According to the Prince, “Her contribution to music is as potent as her courageous voice.”
