					23 September 2009 Dear Parents/Caregivers This has been one of the busiest terms I have seen at Kaukapakapa. The following have all happened this term: Kapa Haka Roopu training weekly, BEST studies culminating in Wearable Arts Parades, EHSAS management and planning meetings, 7 Rippa Rugby Field Days, Saturday Netball, 5 Cross Country events, Newspapers in Education studies, Jump Jam, Jump Rope, Young Farmer heats, Nor West & Auckland Netball Championships, Student Led Conferences, Life Education, Juniors to Stardome, Gaye Byers our writing facilitator, Graham Braddock the artist, Constable Dave for Road Safety, Bike Safety and the DARE programme and the list goes on. These are all over and above the daily teaching schedule but are giving our students the opportunities to be at the leading edge in their life and education. Special congratulations to our first GOLD Care Award winners: Leslie Punou, Amy Foote and Samantha Mynott. Congratulations to our CARE Silver winners for the last fortnight: Gemma Bayly, Paisley Pomfrett, Grace O’Brien, Kaden Mill, Amber Carr, Aria Morehu, Ashley Taylor, Charlotte Raffaelli, Taryn Parrott, Jessie Deacon, Cameron Tunnicliffe, Alice Watkins, Hannah Schoffelmeer, Emma Foote, Emily Stroobant, Blake Richardson, Ben Lawton, Renee Cummings, Rebecca Evans, Judith Glasson, Dylan Buchanan and Kayla Wells. Congratulations also to our CARE Bronze winners for the last fortnight : Jackson Schuck, Jackson Transue, Stella Baker, Clay Woodward, Merania Paraone, Rona Bryan, Tera Paraone, Ethan Gregerson, Raumati Rawiri-Nahi, Cagan Henry, Alex Mallett, Christy Ann Cremer, Oscar Bonar, Stacey Best, Allan Wilcock and McCaela Panui. ICT Room As part of our ICT security and safety we do not allow anyone to bring memory sticks into school to plug into our computer system. Ag Day In the last week all students have brought home a registration form for our Ag Day. Please help your child complete this form and return it to class teachers by tomorrow (Thursday). Attached to this Newsletter, for your information is the list of Indoor Exhibits. We are sending this out now as there may be time over the holidays that you can encourage your child to start thinking of how they are going to make exhibits. Teachers have spent time this week explaining these too. The day is treated as a school day and all students are

well during the session and there was a high skipping skill level evident. Citizenship Projects This term all students from Year 5 and above were set a Responsibility study as an attempt to make them aware of the importance of this component of our CARE programme. I congratulate all those who completed the study which was done to a high standard. Many of these projects are on display around the school and in classrooms. Netball Kaipara Netball prize giving was held on Sat. 5th September with the following awards presented; Starbusters Future Ferns Sportsmanship award. Cowgirls Junior D Runners up, Future Ferns points round winners and special award for achievement playing up a grade in Juniors. Bratz Sportsmanship award Malzpalz Most improved team Mustangs Intermediate B points round winners Kruizers A Grade Champions The Netball season has finished and we congratulate all the teams and give special thanks to their coach’s managers and supporters. Our Netball Prize Giving is at the Kaukapakapa Bowling Club tomorrow (Thursday) night at 7.00pm. Senior School Camp Fundraising Thanks to all who bought tickets for our bike fundraiser. This was won by Mr. Peter Gundy. We have one more bike to raffle and tickets will be available at Ag Day. ATV Nationals Congratulations to Sam Bonar 2nd and Oscar Bonar 5th at the New Zealand ATV National Championships at Blenheim. SCHOOL SUPPORT GROUP Ag Day – Saturday, 17th October On Ag Day, the School Support Group runs a sausage sizzle, food stall, cake stall, quickfire and hamper raffles. We need

helpers on the day, so if you can spare a couple of hours to help out, please call Sandy on 420-4534. Kaukapakapa School Golf Tournament – Wednesday, 25th November If you are thinking about entering a team, now is the time to do it as we are limited to 30 teams on the day. For further information, please phone Sandy on 4204534. Christmas Shopping Nite – Friday, 27th November Put this date in your diary. The Christmas Shopping Nite is an annual event at the Hall and is an excellent way to get a headstart on your Christmas shopping and support many local craft people. Next Meeting The School Support Group meets on the 1st Thursday of each month. However, due to the school holidays, our next meeting will be held in the staffroom at 7.00pm, Thursday, 15th October.
