Hello Fellow Ski Club Members!
A sure sign that summer is winding down is receiving our trip brochure in the mail. Thanks to our Trip
Director, Gene Collier, and all our trip leaders for putting together another great trip lineup! We had a great
turnout (over 100) at our trip presentation party and those of us in attendance got to hear firsthand about all
our trips directly from our trip leaders. Thanks also to Gene and Becky Bane for having us at Loch Haven
Lake for this event.
Now the hard part – choosing which trips to sign up for! Don’t wait too long, as many of our trips fill up
very early. And remember, you must be a paid member of the club to be considered for a trip, so don’t
forget to renew your membership.
The weekend after our trip presentation party we were treated to a terrific pool party by our hosts Bill and
Amanda Brewster. Gene Collier cooked up some tasty pork barbeque, guests brought some delicious side
dishes, and the band, Blue Mule, entertained us while we enjoyed the pool and beautiful surroundings.
Thank you Bill and Amanda!
I would like to welcome Karen Saunders to the Board. Karen will be our new Secretary replacing Emilie
Tydings. Due to other obligations, Emilie resigned this past month. Thank you Emilie for you past
contributions as Secretary and thank you, Karen, for volunteering to be our new Secretary!
And lastly, mark your calendars for our first Membership Meeting on Wednesday, September 5th, at 6:30 at
Hidden Valley Country Club. As usual, there will be heavy hors d’oeuvres and cash bar from 6:30 to 7:15
followed by our meeting and program. September’s program will be a review and update of this coming
year’s trips from our trip leaders. See you there!
Enjoy the rest of your summer!
TRIPS! TRIPS! TRIPS!
I want to thank all the people that helped with the Trip Presentation Party,
especially Dave and Melinda Cohan that worked hard to arrange for the food
and beverages. We had 105 attendees, which is the most we have ever had.
I am very excited and pleased with this season’s trips. The trip leaders and I
put a lot of time and effort into planning these 8 fabulous trips. Hopefully,
you will have a difficult time choosing from this great line up or maybe, you’ll
choose to go on them all!
Trip sign up date is Wednesday August 1, so be sure and get your trip
applications and deposit checks to the trip leaders on that date or as soon as
possible. Do not wait as the trip of your choice may be sold out and airline
space is more limited this year.
YOU MUST BE A DUES PAID MEMBER FOR 2012 – 2013 FOR YOUR TRIP
APPLICATION AND DEPOSIT TO BE ACCEPTED FOR A TRIP ! SO BE SURE
AND PAY YOUR DUES AND RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP.

Gene Collier, Trip Director
Greetings to my ski club friends,
We have had a busy, busy Summer and the line-up for ACTIVITIES is looking wonderful for the Fall! In
June a few of us enjoyed a "cool" weekend in nearby Floyd, VA. Several enjoyed lodging at the Woodberry Inn
on the Blue Ridge Parkway enjoying lakeside lodging and dining with the utmost in care and attention from
the Inn Keepers.
The Friday night jamboree at "THE" Floyd Country Store was an experience shared by Linda Harrison, Judy
Kniskern, David and Ellen Weinman, Ann & Bill Howard, Shelley and son, Ryan. Lots of music at the Country
Store, on the streets and at the market! Saturday morning quite "by chance" Jack & Jan O'Connell, Dean &
Shelley, bumped into each other on the Buffalo Mountain trail! What a lovely 1 mile hike to the top of the
mountain with breath-taking 360 degree views of the countryside. Some of us enjoyed a visit to the Foggy
Ridge Cider, Mabry Mill and the many shops and antique shops in the area. A few of us made a visit to that
very "secret" natural swimming hole in Floyd. Rated in the "top four" natural swimming holes in the world in
the 2012 Conde Nast Traveler magazine. With some poking and prodding to the local folks and the very
accommodating office of tourism I was provided directions to this special spot for a cool dip! Hope you enjoy
a few pictures of this weekend in Floyd!
A big THANKS to Amanda and Bill Brewster for opening their home for a summer pool party on July 21!
The company, food and music were the best!
