EXCLUSION DATES

SUMMER CAMPS

Some of the camps have special trips - these fees are included in the price.

Our staff/participant ratios reflect our committment to quality program supervision. Preschool programs operate with a ratio of one leader for every 5 children and all other camps operate with a ratio of one leader for every ten campers. These ratios are supplemented with support from our Leadership Development program, mediators and volunteers from the community.

QUALITY SUPERVISION

AGES

See specific camp descriptions for ages. Participants must turn the specified age by August 31, 2009. Camp leaders will take age differences into account when programming activities. ALL REQUESTS for age exemptions should be done by email to recinfo@barrie.ca

How Active is a Camp???
All camps have an activity components, but some camps are definitely geared towards the high energy camper. Use the guide listed below when making choices about how active a camp you want for your child. Light Activity Moderate Activity High Intensity

Lunch & Snacks

Due to the number of life-threatening allergies children in camps have to peanuts/nuts, the summer camps have become a “nut aware” environment. We therefore request all parents to avoid sending peanut or nut products to camps. Please send energizing food including fruits, vegetables, breads and drinks. Limiting “sugary” foods is highly recommended. The EAT SMART Lunch Program is available at both the Holly C.C. & East Bayfield C. C. See page 4 for further information.

MEDICAL INFORMATION

Health and Safety is our number one priority. Please ensure the camper information section is fully completed and we have up to date information about your child’s medical condition including Doctor’s name and an emergency contact that can be reached during the hours of 7:30am-5:30pm.

Campers requiring medication

at camp need to have a signed Medication Release Form on site. Medication must be stored in original containers only, and camp staff will keep it in a secured location.

The City of Barrie Marina has 130 serviced boatslips that can be leased by the season and can accommodate boats up to 35’. The Marina also has 16 serviced boatslips that can accommodate boats up to 60’ exclusively for use by transient boaters. In addition there is the Bayfield St. Government Wharf that can accommodate up to 35 boats. All transient docking spaces are $33.00 per boat per night or $165.00 per week. The maximum length of stay and the checkout and check-in times vary depending on the location of the transient dock. The City of Barrie Marina, following Council guidelines, allocates seasonal boatslips utilizing a 3 priority system: Priority #1: City of Barrie residents and/or taxpayers who were seasonal lessees in the Marina the previous year; Priority #2: Other City of Barrie residents and/or taxpayers; Priority #3: Non-residents and non-taxpayers. PARK REGULATIONS
Your co-operation in following rules that have been established to maintain our safe and beautiful parks is appreciated. 1. 2. 3. 4. By-law 87-76 requires dog owners to clean up after their dog within the City limits. Dogs must be kept leashed in all public areas, including parks. Dogs are not allowed on beaches at Johnson, Minets Point or Tyndale Park. Designated walkways in Centennial, Heritage and Allandale Station Parks permit leashed dogs only. Motorized vehicles other than authorized vehicles are not allowed in the parks. This includes snowmobiles, motorbikes or automobiles. Irresponsible vehicle users can do tremendous damage to our lovely parks and natural areas. For the safety of all park users, golfing is not permitted in City parks. Alcoholic beverages are NOT permitted in City parks.

PARKS

5. 6.

PLAYGROUNDS

All City playground areas are unsupervised. Parents and guardians assume all risks for children playing on equipment. Users are cautioned that all the shock absorption of falls onto the safety surfacing is reduced by freezing temperatures and compaction due to heavy use. The Operations Department regularly inspects all equipment for maintenance purposes, however, we appreciate calls from the public notifying us of any broken or vandalized park equipment when observed. Please call the PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE DIVISION NUMBER at 739-4262.

There has recently been an increase in the occurrence of vandalism in City parks. Playground equipment, benches and trees (from young to old) have been damaged or destroyed by vandals. While the perpetrators of these activities are a small percentage of the population, they affect the rest of the population’s access to and enjoyment of park facilities, as well as dramatically increase the cost to the City taxpayers to maintain parks. If you see anyone vandalizing or abusing City parks, please contact the Municipal Law Enforcement Office at 739-4241 or Barrie City Police at 725-7028.

ISSUES IN BARRIE PARKS

Parking is available at the Dorian Parker Centre or along Sunnidale Road. All dogs must have a current license and rabies vaccination to use the facility. Dog owners are required to clean up after their pet. Please report any comments or concerns to the Operations Department at 739-4255. All dogs must be leashed outside of the DOLRA while in Sunnidale Park as per City of Barrie By-law 88-260. Pit Bull type dogs must be leashed and muzzled at all times within the off-leash area. Pursuant to the amended Dog Owners Liability Art, R.S.O. 1990.

STRATEGIC MASTER PLAN

Boating Restrictions
The City of Barrie has applied for Federal Government approval to implement boating restrictions within the City’s boundaries of Kempenfelt Bay. Final approval is pending. Should it be received for the 2009 Boating Season, further information will be provided to the public at that time.

43

SUMMER 2009

BOATING

History...

In an effort to provide a safe environment for all users of Kempenfelt Bay, the City of Barrie has opted to apply boating restriction legislation (pending Government of Canada approval) to high-use areas.

Why do we need Boating Restrictions?

* Powerboats and PWC”s travelling at high speeds * Boating too close to, or within, designated swim areas * Swimmers going outside the designated swim areas * User-groups that “mark” specific areas for their activities.

* Launching areas will be more defined * Scuba Diving Site at the JC Morrison to be designated

What are we going to do?

* Install buoy markers to designate swim areas * Post speed limits to ensure swimmer and boater safety around launches, swim areas and high traffic areas * OPP and Barrie Police Services to enforce limits

What will be restricted?

* Access to swim areas by boaters at all City beaches * Speed limits near swimming areas

How can you help?

* Swim within designated boundaries * Groups and clubs to use the official markers to be installed by the City * Boat safely * Observe speed limits * Take care when launching and landing your boat
