Cosmetology 2009-2010 Program Overview The Cosmetology program offers a wide variety of career opportunities as a stylist, salon owner, cosmetic technician, nail care technician and manufacturing or field representative. Students practice on other students, models or mannequins prior to gaining practical experience with clients in Century's own clinic. Upon completion of the Cosmetology program, students are required to take the state licensure examination. Students must have a high school diploma or GED before licensure. The remaining credits are clinicals done in Century College's Cosmetology clinic. Financial Aid Financial aid is available to those who are eligible. Students must apply for financial aid early as it can take 6-8 weeks to be processed. Please contact the Financial Aid Office for more information and a free financial aid application. General Education Courses: In addition, students completing the diploma and certificate will be required to take 3 credits in the following subjects: English Composition or Communication Costs In addition to tuition costs, supplies for the program will cost approximately $650. General Education Courses: Program Options Program Name: # of Credits, # of Semesters Cosmetology (Associate in Applied Science Degree): 72 cr, 5 ½ sem Cosmetology (Diploma): 55 cr, 3 ½ sem Nail Care Technician (Certificate): 16 cr, 1 sem For the AAS degree, students select a minimum of 20 credits in the following areas: English Composition Communication Science/Mathematics History/Social and Behavioral Sciences Humanities/Fine Arts Placement Services Some placement assistance may be provided by program advisors/instructors and advisory committee members from the field.
