Attempt murder of a Police Officer 08-38196 City of Buena Park to City of La Mirada 09-18-2008 / 8:45am Buena Park Police Officer See below

On 09-18-2008 at about 8:45am, a Buena Park Police Officer attempted to make a car stop in the area of Knott and Artesia in the City of Buena Park on a dark-colored Honda for vehicle code violations. The passenger of the Honda fired a gun at the officer and then the Honda fled northbound on the I-5 freeway. The officer was not struck by the gunfire and the officer pursued the Honda. While on the freeway, the passenger of the Honda fired more shots at the pursuing officer. The officer was not struck by the gunfire. The Honda exited the I-5 freeway at Valley View and eventually pulled over just north of Rosecrans in the City of La Mirada. The driver was taken into custody without further incident. The passenger fled on foot. A perimeter was set up utilizing officers from various surrounding agencies. The passenger was located as he was walking down a neighborhood street and he was arrested without further incident. No one was struck by gunfire and there were no injuries. No officers fired their weapons. The investigation is ongoing and the weapon has not been located at this time. The passenger is on parole and has an extensive criminal history. The involved BPPD officer is an 11-year police veteran, with 6 years at BPPD.
