          Road network (1)
- Total length is 1685,5 km with 889 roads, of which
   in inner city : 702,64 km; transportation area is 5,9 million m2; in
    suburb area: 982,86 km; transportation area is 5,2 million m2.
- Across-points are in the same level
- There are many narrow streets in the city:
        •   14% of total have 7m – 12 m wide
        •   8% of total have 12m – 18m wide
        •   11% of total have equal or more than 18m wide
        •   65% of total alleys have less than 7m wide

         Road network (2)
- In the network, there are not close outer and inter
  rings, therefore there are some disadvantages
  for transport organization, especially for high-
  way and transit
- The road network is un-balance, not enough
  side track, therefore, the transport situation is
  not good: congestion, traffic jam, car accident
  etc. HCMC has to face with many transport
  problems, in which one of the most important is
  motorcycles increases rapidly (95% of transport
  demand)

        Cargo transport (1)
- There  is limited high standard routes for trucks, heavy
 vehicles work with full effective.
 - Network for trucks is deter minted by main corridors
 which link supply routes from the base ( such as Sai Gon
 sea port, Ben Nghe sea port, Tan Cang sea port, export
 processing zone, industry zones ...etc.
- These ports in HCMC’s port zone have been
 developing for many years, therefore there is not
 advantages for expand and change.
- These are main reasons, effect directly to traffic jam,
 congestion, damage of roads and bridges

     Cargo transport (2)

- Vehicle mode get 16,1% of total transport demand.
-Cargo transport mode by container is popular now
hence increasing of container trucks in HCMC
- It makes the mix flow of heavy and light vehicles on
some supply routes in district 6, Tan Binh district, Binh
Thanh district .etc. is one of reasons of traffic jam
4 main itineraries for cargo transport


1. Between sea ports and warehouses for: rice,
  farm produces, fertilizer, construction
  materials etc.
2. Between the construction materials
  producers and big construction sites.
3. Goods and foods itineraries to inner district
  and retail markets.
4. Container trucks in/out of Sai Gon and Tan
  Cang seaports
 Some administrative measures
In period 1996 – 2003, P.C of HCMC has implemented
   some administrative measures to reduce truck entry to
   inner city:
       • Allow truck with capacity over 2,5 tons or total
         capacity over 5 tons entry to inner city from 21PM
         to 6AM of the next day.
       • Allow truck entry to the fifth supply route from 9AM
         to 16PM.
       • Not allow three-wheels motorcycle be use in
         central city : Dist.1, dist. 3 and main routes with
         high transportation flow.
