									Ch.2 Creating a Presentation with
Illustrations and Shapes – Bookwork
Directions:       Follow the instructions step-by-step. I suggest saving this document to your
documents so you can mark off what steps you have completed since this exercise will last longer than
one day. Work at your own pace. If you do not know how to do something, then problem solve to
figure it out yourself. If you still cannot make it work, then come ask me for help.


Instructions:
To Start PowerPoint:
   1. Click on the Start button on the Windows taskbar to display the Start menu.
   2. Click on All Programs on the Start menu then click on Microsoft Office.
   3. Click on Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007.

To Create a Title Slide:
   1. Type “Protect Your Good Name” in the title text placeholder.

To Create the First Text Slide with a Single-Level Bulleted List:
   1. Click the New Slide button in the Slides group. (Home Tab)
   2. Type “Reduce Access to Personal Data” in the title text placeholder.
   3. Type “Shred credit card offers” in the content text placeholder & press enter.
   4. Type “Use a locked mailbox” & press enter.
   5. Type “Mail envelopes inside the post office” & press enter
   6. Type “Remove listing from telephone directory”

To Create the Second Text Slide with a Single-Level Bulleted List:
   1. Click the New Slide button in the Slides group. (Home Tab)
   2. Type “Internet and Security Safeguards” in title text placeholder.
   3. Type “Install a firewall” in the content text placeholder & press enter.
   4. Type “Install and update virus protection” & press enter.
   5. Type “Never respond to phishing e-mail” & press enter.
   6. Type “Use credit, not debit, cards when shopping.

To Create the Third Text Slide with a Single-Level Bulleted List:
   1. Click the New Slide button in the Slides group. (Home Tab)
   2. Type “Beware of ‘Shoulder Surfers’” in the title text placeholder.
   3. Type “Shield your hand when entering your PIN” in the content text placeholder & press enter.
   4. Type “Thieves may be watching with binoculars”
To Choose a Background Style:
   1. Click Design Tab on the Ribbon.
   2. Click the Background Styles button.
   3. Click Background Style 12 to apply background to slides.

To Save a Presentation:

   1.   Click the save button (blue floppy disk) next to the Office button.
   2.   Make sure to save presentation under your documents.
   3.   Name the file “Indentify Theft”.
   4.   Click Save.

To Change the Slide Layout to Two Content:

   1.   Click on Slide 2.
   2.   Click the Layout button in the Slides group on the Home Tab.
   3.   Click Two Content to apply layout to Slide 2.
   4.   Apply Two Content layout to Slide 3 also.

To Change the Slide Layout to Picture with Caption:

   1. Click on Slide 4.
   2. Click the Layout button in the Slides group on the Home Tab.
   3. Click Picture with Caption to apply layout to Slide 4.

To Insert a Clip from the Clip Organizer into a Content Placeholder:

   1.   Click on Slide 2.
   2.   Click the Clip Art button in the right-side content placeholder.
   3.   Type “shredder” in the search box & click Go.
   4.   Make sure the “Search In:” box says “All Collections”.
   5.   Click on a picture of any shredder you find appealing.
   6.   Use the same steps as above to add a picture of a credit card onto Slide 3.

To Insert a Photograph from a File into a Slide:

   1. Click on Slide 4.
   2. Close the Clip Art task pane if necessary.
   3. Click the Insert Picture from File icon in the content placeholder.
   4. Navigate to find the picture for the slide:
           ICHS on Drive (T:) > Bunner > Computer Apps > PPT > Ch.2 > Slide 4 Picture
   5. Click Slide 4 Picture file, then click Insert.
To Resize Clip Art:

   1. Click on Slide 2.
   2. Click the shredder clip art.
   3. Point to the upper-left corner sizing handle so that the mouse pointer shape changes to a two-
      headed arrow.
   4. Drag the sizing handle diagonally toward the center of the slide until the picture is the same size
      as the bulleted words.
   5. If necessary, select the image and then use the arrow keys to position the image as needed.
   6. Click outside the images to deselect it.
   7. Use the same steps as above to resize the picture on Slide 3.

To Format Title Text Using Quick Styles:

   1.   Click on the Slide 2 title text placeholder.
   2.   Click the Quick Styles button in the Drawing group on the Home Tab.
   3.   Click Subtle Effect – Accent 6 Quick Style (row 4, column 7) to apply format.
   4.   Use the same steps above to apply Quick Style format to the title text placeholder on Slide 3 &
        Slide 4.

To Change the Heading Font:

   1.   Click on Slide 2.
   2.   Highlight the text in the title text placeholder.
   3.   Click the Font box arrow in the Font group on the Home Tab.
   4.   Click Cambria to change the font.

To Shadow Text:

   1. With the text still selected, click the Text Shadow button in the Font group on the Home Tab.

To Change Font Color:

   1. With the text still selected, click the Font Color box arrow in the Font group on the Home Tab.
   2. Click on the Dark Red color under the Standard Colors row.

To Format Slide 3 Text Using the Format Painter:

   1. With Slide 2 title text still selected, double-click the Format Painter button in the Clipboard
      group on the Home Tab.
   2. Click on Slide 3.
   3. Highlight the text in the title text placeholder.
   4. Click on Slide 4.
   5. Highlight the text in the title text placeholder.
   6. Click on Slide 1.
   7. Highlight the text in the title text placeholder.
   8. Press ESC key to turn off Format Painter button.

To Size Slide 4 Text:

   1.   Click on Slide 4.
   2.   Highlight the text in the content text placeholder.
   3.   Click the Increase Font Size button in the Font group on the Home Tab to 24 pt.
   4.   Increase the font size in the title text placeholder to 32 pt. using the same steps as above.

To Increase Title Slide Font Size:

   1. Click on Slide 1.
   2. Highlight the text in the title text placeholder & increase font size to 80 pt.

To Add a Shape:

   1.   Click on Slide 1.
   2.   Click the Shapes button in the Drawing group on the Home Tab.
   3.   Click on Wave banner shape in the Stars and Banners area.
   4.   Click anywhere on Slide 1 below the title text to insert shape.

To Resize Shape:

   1. Click on Wave shape
   2. Point to the lower-right corner sizing handle until mouse pointer changes to two-headed arrow.
   3. Click and drag the sizing handle diagonally until the shape is about the same size as the title.

To Add Text to a Shape:

   1. With the Wave shape still selected, type “Reduce Your Risk of Identity Theft” in the shape.

To Format Shape Text and Add a Shape Quick Style:

   1.   Highlight the text inside the Wave shape & increase font size to 36 pt.
   2.   Click the Shape Quick Styles button in the Drawing group on the Home Tab.
   3.   Click the Subtle Effect – Accent 6 style (row 4, column 7).
   4.   Click outside the shape deselect the Wave shape.

To Delete a Placeholder:

   1. Click the subtitle text placeholder border two times to change the border to a solid line.
   2. Press the DELETE key to delete the placeholder.
   3. If necessary, select the shape & use the arrow keys to center the shape under the title text

To Add a Transition between Slides:

   1. Click the Animations Tab on the Ribbon.
   2. Click the More button in the Transition to This Slide group.
   3. Click the Uncover Right transition (row 2, column 2) in the Wipes category
   4. Click the Transition Speed arrow in the Transition to This Slide group & click Medium.
   5. Click The Apply to All button in the Transition to This Slide group.

To Upload PowerPoint:

   1. Save the finished PowerPoint & upload file to our website
