Literature Festival Comes to Worcester in 2011

      - Volunteers and events sought to help bring this exciting new Festival to the
                                       Faithful City -

Worcester’s first ever literature festival is coming to the city in 2011 with an array of
events including creative writing workshops, seminars, poetry workshops, talks by local
and well known authors, book signings, poetry reading sessions, open mic reading
sessions, a book stall event and much more.

The Worcester Literature Festival is the brainchild of Lisa Ventura, who co-founded the
Worcester Music Festival in 2008 with Chris Bennion of Not Just Sauce. She is now
seeking help and volunteers to help make the event happen in 2011.

Exact dates for the Festival in 2011 are yet to be confirmed and a public meeting has
been arranged for Thursday 3rd June 2010 at AirR Café Bar in Bridge Street, Worcester
at 7.00pm for anyone interested in taking part or helping with the Festival to come and
meet the organisers and register to be involved. Peter Spalton, AKA “The Dating
Doctor”, has already signed up to provide workshops and Lisa has teamed up with Sarah
Finn, who will be responsible for fundraising and Festival Organisation, to help her with
the event.

Lisa Ventura said: “For years I have toyed with the idea of putting on a literature Festival
in Worcester. We have the Hay on Wye Festival and literature festivals in Birmingham
and Cheltenham, but nothing that is solely for literature in Worcester. I was involved
with the Three Choirs Festival Fringe in 1999 and even then I had a vision of putting on
an event dedicated to literature and writing.
“To test the water and gauge interest I created a group on Facebook and within less
than 24 hours of it going live the group had nearly 100 members with numerous posts
on the group wall, offers of help and ideas for events. The group now has nearly 170
members and it is still growing, which shows the level of interest in holding an event of
this nature in Worcester, and I will be spending some time before the meeting making
links with individuals and organisations who would like to be involved”.

The public meeting will be an informal event and a chance to meet the organisers and
brainstorm ideas for events, seminars and workshops, and all who are interested in
being involved are welcome to attend.

For further information about the meeting or to register your interest if you cannot
attend, please call Lisa Ventura on 0845 652 0621 or email
