Agenda- Managing the Flexible Workplace



9.00 – 9.15      Introduction, welcome and agenda for the day
                 Speaker: Henry Jerwood, Smarter Working West Midlands.

9.15 – 10.15     Managing the Flexible workforce - This will cover the management of
                 teams and groups who work flexibly, possibly including home and
                 remote working and the issues to be addressed from a management
                 perspective. It will include a case study and group discussion

                 Speaker: Henry Jerwood, Smarter Working West Midlands.
                 Bio: Henry’s career has covered both operational and management
                 roles in sales and marketing in the IT and Services industries.


10.15 – 10.45    ACAS session part 1- General overview of the benefits and
                 disadvantages of home working/agile working and the measure which
                 needs to be to successfully introduce it in to organisations.

                 Speaker: Malcolm Boswell, Director, Acas West Midlands.
                 Bio: Malcolm was part of the team which introduced
                 Homeworking in to Acas in the early nineties and was part
                 of the commissioning team behind the Huws research in to
                 Homeworking in 1997. He has worked with a number of organisations
                 to help introduce homeworking/agile working, to enhance business
                 performance, reduce their carbon footprint and promote Corporate
                 Social Responsibility.



10.45 - 11.00    Coffee Break
11.00 - 11.45   ACAS session part 2- To share the findings of the recent Acas research
                in to home working which looks at the issues relating to home
                working/agile working from the perspective of both managers and
                employees.
                Speaker: Malcolm Boswell, Director, Acas West Midlands.



11.45 - 12.30   Travel Planning – A Brief History, Benefits of Travel Planning and Case
                Study results will be discussed.

                Speaker: Debbie Hildick Smith, Smarter Choices Officer (Employer)
                Business, Environment and Community Directorate, Worcestershire
                County Council.
                Bio: Debbie joined Worcestershire County Council in 2007 as part of
                Sustainable Travel Town project called 'Choose how you move
                Worcester'. Debbie's job now includes reviewing Travel Plans
                submitted as part of planning applications across the county.



12.30 - 1.30    Lunch



1.30 - 4.00     Health and Wellbeing in the workplace- Interactive session.

                Speaker: Abigail Hirshman, Co-Director, Workplace Wellbeing
                Applied Research Group, Coventry University
                Bio: Abigail is an experienced psychotherapist and has worked for
                more than 15 years, as a Manager and Trainer in counselling and
                mental health. More recently Abigail has been involved in the
                development and delivery of training products and projects in the
                area of health and wellbeing.
