Strategies for Circulation Success
In the recent past, college newspapers seemed to be the favorite news media and the “diversion of choice” among college students. The rapid entry of new and personal media into the marketplace has allowed college newspapers little time to adjust to this competition. We’ll look at the different new and personal media competing for our readers’ time and brainstorm ways to gain back their attention.
Today’s student and those that follow are media junkies. College newspapers can however survive and thrive in this environment provided you take action. This session will examine the road to understanding student behavior and initiating a marketing strategy to forge a stronger bond which is measured in healthy pick-ups.

Everyone on the
K4 will elevate designers and editors to dynamic collaboration. K4 is a cross-platform publishing system designed especially for highperformance collaborative workflows. K4 integrates Adobe® InDesign® CS2 and Adobe InCopy® CS2—as well as the other applications that are often used in a publishing workflow—with an open and scalable SQL database. K4 offers power and flexibility in a system that is easy to learn, easy to manage and a snap to administer.
It’s Us or a Bunch of Dummies
If you are still using the old paper-and-pencil method for ad layout, you’ll find it hard to achieve a fully electronic workflow. Digital workflow starts with the ads, so it’s time to trade in your pencil nubs and eraser shreds for a streamlined, point-and-shoot ad dummying process.
K4 allows you to streamline workflow and manage all content with ease. K4 organizes the activities of designers, layout artists, writers, editors, illustrators, photo editors, and production staff. Then, K4 manages all the associated files and controls the production process—offering a true relational database management system that runs on all major platforms.
Step up to the newest version of AdForce, the advertising layout and issue management system specially designed for small- to medium-sized Macbased publications. AdForce gives you full control over dummying rules, coupon placement and issue gravity. Advanced color management lets you specify spot, process, and custom colors to suit your press run. Other collaborative publishing software solutions which MEI delivers include: Integrated Production Suite (IPS). Powerful, reliable integration of MEI’s top products. K4 Publishing System. Streamlined publishing for collaborative workflows. Ad Layout System (ALS). Fast and intelligent automated ad dummying.
Streamlined Workflow
• Manage multiple publications with one secure login. • Access articles and layouts through simple check-out and check-in. • Automate trafficking and minimize errors with built-in workflow routing. • Always work on the most current versions, and maintain an effective audit trail.

Collaboration
• Multiple users can edit content on the same layout simultaneously without conflict. • Change tracking, inline notes, and version comments streamline communication. • Share H&J, styles, colors and geometry between editorial and page design.
