Up north in Limpopo, we loved the all-over micro patterns we found on indigo ishishweshwe fabrics—and we really loved how Tsonga women embellished store-bought fabrics with their own beading and embroidery. We returned home inspired to create our own adventures in pattern and print. As for the color, indigo makes a terrific “palate cleanser” that removes the taste of winter and brings on spring. JOBERG WRAP NECK DRESS A signature Tea silhouette in a print so light and buoyant, it almost flutters. And the sleeves literally do. (By the way, if you’re a local in Johannesburg, you can call it “Joburg.”) LA DUMA SOCCER POLO South Africa is crazy for soccer. When a goal is scored at a soccer match, fans scream “La duma!” which means “It thunders!” in Zulu. STRIPE HAPPY HOODIE Layer under the La Duma Soccer Polo to carry this spring look throughout the spring season. DESTINATION: SOUTH AFRICA On the Savanna Collection Available in late January 2013 DESTINATION: SOUTH AFRICA On the Savanna Collection Available in late January 2013 Our second delivery is a modern take on African safari themes. Think bold stripes, woodcut florals and animal motifs. We also found vintage African travel posters, flower-painted pottery and, out on the savanna, sunsets that showed us more colors than we’d seen in any other sky. These early spring styles are designed to be layered now, and then worn alone when the weather warms.
