									International MSc in Chemical Engineering?

• Background
   – Continuing crisis in student recruitment
   – Desire to provide an international option, more international
     collaboration, exchange
   – Benefit from ”quota-programme”
• Solution?
   – International MSc-programme in Chemical Engineering
   – 2 year programme (120 credits), with 1 term ”diploma-dissertation” –
     parallell to exisisting programme
        • Today about 10 such programmes at NTNU
• Issues
   –   Can we improve numbers/recruitment by going ”international”?
   –   Can we compete internationally?
   –   Can we get good students this way
   –   Will we hurt/damage the existing programme?

  – As the 5 year programme
• Only selected topics/directions (with market
  power)?
  – E.g.
     • Pulp & paper
     • Oil production and processing

• Example: Dep. of Material Technology:
  – Only one spcialized programme. Int. MSc in light
    metals production

   • Should in general remove all issues with mathemathics,
     basic engineering subjects
   • Limited number of candidates?
– BSc in chemistry or ”other science”
   • Would require more basic subjects (maths, basic chem.eng.)

– BSc in other engineering sciences (e.g. Mechanical
  Engineering)
   • Lack of basic Chem. Eng. subjects
– ”3rd world”, outside area of Bologna decl.
   • What background do candidates from these countries have?
