1. From the Davidson Library Home Page, under Online Databases, Select Student Resource Center. At the next screen, click on Proceed. 2. Type in your energy resource. C. Websites
Mrs. Richardson has sifted through numerous websites and chosen a few that are particularly helpful for this project. Here is how to find them. 1. From the Library Homepage, find the button on the left for Science. From the pop up menu select Energy Resources. 2. Scroll down to find your energy resource. Try out a few links. Write the name and URL of the best one for this project. ___________________________________________________ 3. At the top, click on the Energy Information Administration link. There is lots of information here, including statistics. It is a little difficult to use though.
D. Online Encyclopedias - Subscription
Encyclopedias are a good place to start research. They are also a good place to start online research. We subscribe to Grolier Online, which includes 3 encyclopedias, and links to websites and periodicals. 1. From the Library Homepage, select GROLIER ONLINE. (Look under the Online Encyclopedias Heading). 2. Select Advanced Search. In the box that says this exact phrase, type in your energy resource and click on Go. 3. What is the first article? Title________________________, Source______________________ What is the second article? Title________________________, Source______________________ 4. Select an article that looks the BEST. Write the Title_________________, Source (which encyclopedia it is from)_________________ , Click on How to cite this article, or cite this article. Does this look helpful?________ We will use MLA.
E. Online Encyclopedias – Free
Wikipedia can be a good resource, if you are careful. Entries are written by people that sign up to be members and contributors. The entries can be edited by other members. Because of the openness, there can be inaccuracies. The journal Nature, however, did an analysis of the science entries, and found them to have the same rate of accuracy as the Encyclopedia Britannica, the gold standard of encyclopedias. 1. 2. 3. 4. From the Research Page, select Wikipedia. Search for your energy resource. Select an article. Can you understand the article?_______ On the left side in the TOOLBS, click on Cite this article. At the next page scroll down to MLA. This is the bibliographic information.
When you are done with this packet:
1. Go to the SHELF. Get one of the books you found in your catalog search. (Use the call number to find it.)
Read an entire article or chapter. Then answer the questions on the worksheet. (These are your notes.) If you can’t answer all of the questions, that’s okay. You will be looking in two more sources.
Staple the correct Bibliographic Information Worksheet to the notes.

2. Go to the COMPUTER. Go to one of the online resources you found in the Guided Research. Take notes on another questions worksheet . Staple the correct Bibliographic Information Worksheet to the notes:
