Sun Fire(tm) V210 Server and Sun Fire(tm) V240 Server The Sun Fire V210 is a ready to deploy, low cost, thin server, loaded with all the components customers need for deployment in front-end Web infrastructure and technical compute farms, while the Sun Fire V240 provides a datacenter-class, rack-optimized server with high availability and expandability features. Pricing and Availability: An entry configuration of the Sun Fire V210 server is scheduled to be available May 20, 2003 for $2,995 U.S. list price. Improved Sun Fire(tm) 280R Server, Netra(tm) 20 Server and Sun Blade(tm) 2000 systems Sun is providing up to a 35% performance improvement with the new 1.2 GHz UltraSPARC® III Cu processor while either helping to lower or maintain the current product prices. Pricing and Availability: The Sun Fire 280R is available starting at a U.S. list price ranging from $7,995-$19,995. The Netra 20 server is scheduled to be available for a U.S. list price of $11,495. The new Sun Blade 2000 1.2 GHz starts at a U.S. list price of $9,995. All three systems are scheduled to be available on April 30, 2003. Auto Diagnosis and Recovery Auto Diagnosis and Recovery, new advanced reliability features that introduce intelligent system monitoring and recovery capabilities in Sun Fire(tm) 3800-15K systems, can dramatically reduce business interruptions through faster time to service. The Auto Diagnosis and Recovery features monitor system health and provide warnings of system failures. Faulty or suspect components are detected and isolated, allowing live system servicing before potential faulty components cause a service interruption. With Auto Diagnosis and Recovery, the Sun Fire 3800-15K systems are the only UNIX(R) servers to combine detection of some of the most common causes of system faults with the ability to hot-swap key components, such as CPU/Memory Boards, I/O assemblies, and cPCI cards. Project Orion Project Orion aligns Sun's software infrastructure offerings into a predictable quarterly release of an integrated and pre-tested software system distributed on Solaris, Solaris for x86 and Linux. The process simplifies software lifecycle management and pricing models, thereby helping customers to easily deploy either a fully pre-integrated software system, or selected components of the system with less expense and complexity. Pricing and Availability: The first release of Project Orion is planned for mid year, 2003. Sun Management Center To help increase service levels and decrease administrative costs in enterprise computing environments, Sun Management Center 3.5 software enhances application availability, optimizes performance and scalability, and simplifies management of Sun hardware, Solaris(tm) Operating System and applications. Because system administrators are able to control enterprise infrastructures from virtually anywhere on the network or on the Web, they can actively manage hundreds of Sun systems at once through a Java(tm) technology interface or Web browser. While providing a comprehensive instrumentation and administrative knowledge for Sun environments, open interfaces help enable information to be shared with other management platforms. Trusted Solaris Trusted Solaris software extends the capabilities of the Solaris Operating System to provide superior safeguards against internal and external threats far beyond the protection commonly found in standard operating systems. Trusted Solaris software includes comprehensive firewall protection along with other access control methods. Additionally, to help stop security violations by authorized users, it helps enable administrators to implement a security policy that controls the access and handling of information, including system administration, operation, and monitoring tools. With Trusted Solaris 8 HW 12/02, all access to the system and data is reliably controlled and monitored while the multi-level secure file system and windowing manager helps ensure data is kept separate and is only available to those that are authorized to see or use. Trusted Solaris will also run virtually all applications written for Solaris. Pricing and Availability: With Trusted Solaris 8 HW 12/02, Sun launches a new pricing model. Sun will offer two new editions of Trusted Solaris, Standard and Certified, which will allow the most broad possible use of highly secure solutions. The Standard Edition includes all the security functionality of Trusted Solaris and is ideal for environments that do not require accredited installations. The Certified Edition is certified to Common Criteria requirements and is optimized for environments that require accredited installations. Pricing starts at $999 for the Standard Edition desktop and $2,495 for the Certified Edition. Trusted Solaris 8 HW 12/02 is scheduled to ship in the spring and will be available on both SPARC and x86 systems. Secure Trading Agent with the Sun ONE Integration Server B2B Edition The Secure Trading Agent, a new Java technology-based client product provided as an extension to the Sun(tm) ONE Integration Server B2B Edition, allows customers to securely and reliably exchange XML, EDI or any other electronic documents between trading partners over the Internet. Using Web services standards such as XML, SOAP and ebXML, the peer-to-peer technology features SSL security support and digital signing of messages; message reliability through persistence and non repudiation; and a browser based user interface. In addition, the Secure Trading Agent offers secure, reliable messaging
with less complexity than traditional electronic data interchange (EDI)/value added networks (VAN) types of solutions. Sun(tm) ONE Studio 8, Compiler Collection The new Sun ONE Studio 8, Compiler Collection provides up to 30 percent improved compile-time performance, with faster build times and faster time to deployment for developers creating portable, native Solaris applications on SPARC® and x86 platforms. The product also provides a set of command line-based (CLI) components to create and maintain C, C++, and Fortran applications, simplifying the tasks programmers perform most often in application development: compiling, building, and debugging. Enhanced open standards support includes the C99 standard to match Solaris 10, OpenMP support allowing customers to take advantage of SPARC SMP systems, and support of common GCC and Microsoft extensions, helping to ease deployment on Solaris.
