Step 2: Where are you going to look for information?
There are three places in the library that you should use to find information: 1. the encyclopedia in reference 2. the non-fiction books 3. the Internet These will be plenty. But, can you think of others?
Step 3: How are you going to find the information?
Encyclopedias: find the right volume, usually its as simple as E for Eye, T for Telescope. Open the book and find the topic alphabetically, like a dictionary. Internet: using the websites for optics list on student share, copy and paste the different addresses into Non-fiction shelves: use the reserve shelves to see if there are any books in the library that would be helpful. Pick one you think might work. Look at the Table of Contents in the front AND the index in the back. Think. Is there much there on your topic? If yes, stick with it. If no, go try another book.
Step 4: TAKE NOTES
This one is easy: always have a paper and pencil with you wherever you are looking to jot down facts and information you are gathering. While you get the info—make a note of what resource you are using for your bibliography later. Keep your notes together. Refer to the template and assignment page to remind yourself what you are looking for.
Step 5: Put the brochure together! Due Date: _________
Write it up, draft a sample then proofread it, check with Mrs. Grant or Mrs Heimer for help. DON’ T FORGET your bibliography stuff and using the correct format. When you think it is something that fulfills the assignment and you are proud to hand in, hand it in. - - - - - - - - please cut across here and hand this part in with your brochure- - - - - - - - - -
Step 6: Think about how it went:
Yes Were you organized? Were the sources of information the right ones? Did you find what you needed? Did you take useful notes? Was my project as good as I could do? What can you do better next time? { } { } { } { } { } { } No { } { } { } { } { } { }
So, if you answered no to any of those questions, What can you do next time to do it better? Write those ideas in your health notes. They’ ll help you improve next time!
