IRFU Recruiting Applied Sport Psychologist Help prepare Ireland’s next generation of Grand Slam Champions
An exciting opportunity is available for an individual with expertise and experience in applied sport psychology. The Irish Rugby Football Union is seeking to recruit an applied sport psychologist to deliver services, on a part-time contractual basis, in the Leinster Rugby Academy. The successful applicant will work with the Leinster Academy Manager and the National Sport Psychology Manager to deliver group workshops based on the National Mental Skills Curriculum. The sport psychologist will also meet with players on an individual basis to ensure integration of mental skills training into their rugby training and match environments, as well as in their lives outside rugby. Reporting to the Leinster Academy Manager, the National Sport Psychology Manager and the National High Performance Manager, the applied sport psychologist will ideally have:
A masters or doctoral degree in a relevant discipline Certification by the Irish Institute of Sport or another relevant applied sport science organization (e.g., BASES, AASP, etc) Experience working in developmental and high performance sport environments A background and understanding of rugby union
Mental skills training will be the focus of the duties related to these positions and appropriate training in these techniques is therefore of paramount importance. Additional training in motor learning/skill acquisition, organizational psychology or counseling/clinical psychology would be considered a strong asset.
