Assessment project

1) Problem: To measure one’s mental toughness in baseball.

Refining the problem:

2) This rating scale is designed for men intercollegiate division three baseball teams.

3) This rating scale is used to help athletes analyze and improve their mental toughness level.

4) I am evaluating the level of mental toughness athletes have so they can realize how and what
mental skills they need to improve on and what areas they have confidence in.

5) The scale is based on a 1-2-3-4-5 rating system. 1 on the scale means, less true and 5 on the scale
means, more true. At the end the person will add up all their points and the higher score they get the
more mentally prepared and mental tough they are.

6) The test is taken on a piece of paper with the rating scale on it. The assessment will be taken after the
first game of the season and then again at the end of the season to compare their results and how they
improved. It can be taken anywhere and will take about 5-10 minutes to complete. A calculator is not
necessary. The test administrator should stress to the athletes to answer the questions truthfully
because the process is only helping their selves.

7) After the person takes the test they add up all the numbers. 165 is the highest the person can get and
33 is the lowest. The coach will evaluate each assessment and have a private meeting with each athlete
to talk about what they need to improve and how. If the person gets lower than a 90 they will go to
practice 30 minutes early 4 times a week and mentally prepare for practice and games by watching
video clips, mental imagery, and talking with the coach. If they receive higher than a 90 they still need to
work on their mental toughness doing the same mental preparation on their own. The higher a person’s
score means the more mentally tough they are. The assessment is summative with the comparison of
another assessment at the end of the season.

in all aspects of the sport.

* Remember, This assessment is to help yourself get better, so the more candidly you
