Bachelor of Arts in Applied and Media Arts Annual Exhibition of Students’ Works 2010
from 7 to 21 March at the Pao Galleries, Hong Kong Arts Centre

1 March 2010 | Hong Kong – Co-presented by the Hong Kong Art School and SPEED, Hong Kong
Polytechnic University, the Bachelor of Arts in Applied and Media Arts Annual Exhibition of Students’
Works 2010 will be held at the Pao Galleries, Hong Kong Arts Centre, starting from this Sunday,
 March 7.

Titled as Jiao°, the pinyin of the word “perspective” in Mandarin, the exhibition highlights the
development of the concept of “different perspectives” so as to inspire design practitioners to learn,
observe and think through different points of view. In connection with the theme of the exhibition, a
special graphic design has been applied to the word “Jiao” in Chinese character allowing people to
perceive the character in different angles which presents different images according to their own
 interpretations.

The exhibition will be showcasing the works of 17 graduates with themes from individual topics to
social issues, covering different areas of creative works such as graphic design, product design,
exhibition design, animations, game design, photography and installations, with an aim to provide an
inspiring art experience to the public.

In the course of their studies, the graduates were able to obtain more comprehensive understanding
of the process of design from subjective individual ideas to objective public acceptance, and how
both interact with designer’s personal style and point of views. The main concept behind the
exhibition is that, as everyone is attached to his/her own culture and beliefs, the essence of materials
may not be retouched because of their nature of existence. Being a designer, they should have
critical thinking and analytical ability in both subjective and objective ways to address the needs of
 the users.

The Cantonese saying goes, “There is nothing new under the sun”. The crux of working out a design
solution is how we could engage our creativity to perceive the issues and transform ideas into visual
 images, again, with different perspectives.
