Submission of Visa Applications:
Short Term Schengen Visa (max. duration of stay: 90 days)
You may obtain a Schengen-Visa from the German Embassy when your main destination is Germany.
In all other cases you are requested to submit your application to the relevant Schengen Embassy.
The German Embassy is also authorized to issue Schengen-Visa for Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
All applicants have to appear in person at the German Embassy Tripoli to file their application. An exception to the rule of
personal appearance applies to minors below the age of 16.
Each minor obtains its own visa. This also applies to minors who are registered in the passport of one of their legal guardi-
ans. Application forms signed by both legal guardians have to be submitted for all minors below the age of 18.
For Non Libyan nationals a valid residence permit for Libya with the option of exit and re-entry is mandatory. Schengen
visa will only be issued for the term of the valid visa.
Each applicant has to submit a travel health insurance – valid for all Schengen Member States - covering the intended dura-
tion of stay (minimum coverage 30.000,- €) at the time of submitting the application.
Application forms have to be filled in completely in Latin script.
At the time of submitting the application an administrative charge of 60,-€ (to be paid in Libyan Dinars subject to topical
exchange rate) is due.
Please note that all required documents have to be submitted in original along with a copy and possibly an official transla-
tion into the German Language. Submission of complete documents does not automatically entitle to obtain a visa.
If deemed necessary the German Embassy reserves the right to ask for additional documents.
-valid and personally signed passport with minimum validity of three month after the expiry date of the Schengen-Visa.
Please make sure that there are enough empty pages in your passport.
-copies of the first and last page of the passport and if applicable of the extension of the passport
-2 recent passport size photographs (in colour), no copies (biometrically compatible according to sample chart of the cor-
rect application photo, available as download on the Embassy’s website)
-2 fully completed visa application forms, signed by the applicant himself/herself, along with questionnaire for use under
section 54 (6) of the Foreigners Residence Act (AufenthG) and declaration on genuiness of documents submitted (accord-
ing to Section 55 (1 ) in conjunction with 55 (2) of the Foreigners Residence Act (AufenthG))

-A formal obligation letter (Verpflichtungserklärung) from your host in Germany along with one copy. The formal obliga-
tion letter can be obtained by your host at his local town’s Aliens authority in Germany.
(Ausländerbehörde). The original has to be presented to the Federal Police when entering the Federal Republic of Germany
-Additional documents as stated below are requested to prove the social and economical situation of the applicant
• a certificate of employment and salary slip if employed
• letter from the University/School for students as as well as a proof of financial means of their parents
• a registration of business if self-employed
• a proof of financial means (bank statement), covering the last 3 months
• a proof of ownership
