divert so as not to be dependent on any single industry, but the 80's saw a

general reversal of the thinking. Diversification now is in the retreat.

          Concentric Diversification

Adding new, but related, products or services is widely called

          concentric diversification.

       2. Horizontal Diversification

Adding new, unrelated products or services for present customers

          is called horizontal diversification.

       3. Conglomerate Diversification

Adding new, unrelated products or services is called collomerate

          diversification.

d. Defensive Strategies

In addition to integrative, intensive, and diversification strategies,

organizations also pursue joint venture, retrenchment, divestiture or

   liquidation.

          Joint Venture

Joint venture is a popular strategy that occurs when two or more

companies form temporary partnership or consortium for the

purpose of capitalizing on some opportunities. This strategy can be

considered defensive only because the is not undertaking the

           project alone.
