EmpowHer Institute to Honor Women Leaders at Girls to Greatness Gala
EmpowHer Institute, a non-profit organization committed to increasing graduation rates among
girls, will host the inaugural Girls to Greatness Gala Reception on Thursday, April 25, at the
Raleigh Studios in Hollywood, Calif., at 6:30 p.m.
Los Angeles, CA, March 22, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The event will honor female leaders with the Pathmaker
Award, which honors exemplary women in the community who have created opportunities for girls and
women in their work. Recipients include Elise Buik, CEO of United Way, Los Angeles; Dannielle
Campos, Senior Vice President of Bank of America; and Penny Toler, Executive Vice President and
General Manager of the Los Angeles Sparks.
Buik is honored for her personal dedication to increasing graduation rates, decreasing homelessness, and
developing a 10 year initiative called Create Pathways Out of Poverty: job training for low-income
families. Campos is honored for her involvement in the Bank of America Foundation, for her social
consciousness within the community developing initiatives for job creation and education and making
loans to churches in underserved communities when others would not. Toler is honored for her
trailblazing career as a female athlete and involvement with the “Points from Penny” program, which she
created in 1998 to teach youth in the Los Angeles and Las Vegas the fundamentals of basketball, the
importance of teamwork and value of competition.
Grammy award singer/actress Dawnn Lewis and actor Phil LaMarr will serve as the emcees for the
evening. The event will consist of drinks, food and live entertainment by saxophonist, Keschia Potter and
silent and live auctions with gifts and trips as prizes.
