Oscar Night Flyer GSCS Events Calendar 2008 1 2 2 2 3 4 5 Greetings! By Michelle McLaughlin GCSC President President’s Letter – January 2008 Happy New Year! Yes, 2008 is here and we hope each of you will enjoy good health and prosperity throughout the year. The feed back for the December luncheon has been wonderful. We extend a special thanks to the ENCORES for their entertainment. We also want to thank Laura Chroman for working with the Nutcracker Factory to provide a new and different location for our event. Once again the team effort was evident and we appreciate everyone’s contributions. A quick glimpse at our Calendar of Events reveals the efforts provided by our members are ongoing. We will host a Murder Mystery: Death by Chocolate, an exciting Monte Carlo Night, Kentucky Derby Bunko and a special end of the year event that is a FREE event to all members. Finally, our Nominating committee will begin the search for next year’s board. There is a place for each of you in GCSC. We hope you will take advantage of the many opportunities offered and help us make our community the best in Germany. In the last five months of 2007, members of the Board and GCSC members have contributed countless hours volunteering with GCSC. These include the Volksfest, Bazaar, Welfare Committee, Thrift Shop and monthly events, just to name a few. Many of these ladies volunteer in more than one area of our community. Some are Room Moms or Team Moms, others are teachers or leaders of our youth, and still others work in our clinics, community services, or other organizations. Volunteers touch our lives daily. We rely on them. Thank you to all our volunteers, you are making a difference in our world! Those who can, do. Those who can do more, volunteer. ~Author Unknown It's easy to make a buck. It's a lot tougher to make a difference. ~Tom Brokaw Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart. ~Elizabeth Andrew No one is more cherished in this world than someone who lightens the burden of another. Thank you. ~Author Unknown Page 2 Grafenwoehr GCSC Newsletter Oscar Night Event By Laura Croman 1st Vice President Special By Tanya Nattress Special Activities Coordinator Activities We are rolling out the red carpet for you on January 15th - Join Us for the OSCAR NIGHT VOLUNTEER AWARDS CEREMONY! By Roseanna Cintron Thrift Shop Chair We are still looking for a few good women to be on our Thrift Store committee. As a committee member who volunteers at least 10 hours a month, you’ll not only receive 1st choice of all new merchandise before it hits the sales floor, but you are also eligible for a discount of 50% on Thrift Store Property (TSP)! Additionally, up to 20 hours a month of free childcare is provided, and you’ll receive a new Thrift Store Committee charm for the GCSC bracelet. The Thrift store is currently undergoing a facelift, but we will be having a Grand Re-Opening on Saturday, February 2nd. GCSC members who attend. We will have new hours when we re-open, Tuesdays and Thursdays 0930-1400 and the 1st Saturday of the month 0930-1400. There will be some changes in our policies upon reopening - we are going to a donation only system in an effort to better serve the community. Thrift Stores that use this system make an average of 3-4 times what our Thrift Store currently does. If we are able to realize this kind of an increase we have several new community programs in the works for the future. Some ideas that have been discussed are sponsoring several individual Girl/Boy and Scouts for the scouting year, including paying membership dues, buying uniforms, possibly even sending them to camp! There will be several special sales and discounts for those Another idea is to purchase new computers, books, etc for schools, and to give more funding and/or support to the JROTC ... the possibilities are virtually endless! An exception to the donation only policy will be for consigned items with a value of $25.00 or more. We will take these individual items on a space available basis. This would include things like large furniture, baby equipment, large appliances, TVs, sporting goods, etc. Also, we are still accepting applications for a donations clerk and furniture delivery driver. You can have anyone interested contact me at roseannacintron@hotmail.com. We are also starting a contest for Re-Naming the Thrift Store. The winning suggestion will receive a $25.00 AAFES gift certificate. People can enter their suggestion at the Thrift Store after we re-open on February 2nd, or email it to the above listed email address.
