Chapter 8: Cell Reproduction
Cell Cycle
Only Eukaryotic cells have a CELL
CYCLE
Cell Cycle
The CELL CYCLE is
the repeating set of
events in the life of a
cell.
Cell Cycle
The CELL CYCLE consists
of INTERPHASE and CELL
DIVISION.
Cell Cycle= Interphase + Cell
Division
Cell Cycle: Interphase
Cells spend most of the cell cycle in
INTERPHASE.
Interphase is divided into three
stages:
G1 Phase: offspring cells grow to mature
size
S Phase: DNA is replicated
G2 Phase: Growth and preparation for Cell
division (Cell Prepares for Cell Division)
Cell Cycle - Interphase
Cell Cycle: Cell Division
Cell Division = Division
of the nucleus (mitosis)
+ Division of the
cytoplasm
(Cytokinesis)
