Drop -e ending off of parent alkane name and add -oic acid. Please provide a systematic (IUPAC) name for each of the following
                                                                              structures.
The naming of carboxylic acids follows the same basic rules as those for
naming alkanes with the following modifications: Cl O
                                                                                             (CH3)3CCOOH OH
1. Identify the longest chain containing the carboxylic acid.
                                                                                                                                   Br Br
2. The carbon of the carbonyl is always C-1 when naming carboxylic acids.
                                                                                                        O H3C COOH
                                     CH3 O
                                                                                         (CH3)2HC OH
                              H 3C OH
                             3-Methylbutanoic acid

However, when the -COOH group is attached to a ring it is named as a
carboxylic acid. Note that the ring carbon where the -COOH group is COOH
attached is C-1. CH3 O
                                                                                         HOCH2CH2CH2CHCH2COH
                                        COOH
Please provide a structure for each of the following names.

                                 H3 C 3-Bromopentanoic acid Propenoic acid
                   4-Methyl-2-cyclopentenecarboxylic acid
                                                                                      cis-3-Ethylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid Hexanoic acid
In addition to the systematic naming of carboxylic acids there are several
common names which are regularly used for certain compounds. 2-Hydroxybutanoic acid 2-Methylheptanoic acid

                             O O 2-Butynoic acid 3-Fluoropentanoic acid

                          H H OH 1,2-Dibromocyclopentanecarboxylic acid
                          Formyl Formic acid
                          Group

                             O O

                       CH3 CH3 OH
                          Acetyl Acetic acid
