The Early Years: What Brain Research Says
About Teaching our Youngest
Tuesday, November 17, 2009
Presenter:
John Almarode
Target Audience: Early Childhood Special Educators, Early Childhood Educators, VPI
Teachers, Head Start Teachers, Early Intervention Providers
This workshop will investigate the developmental milestones of the brain and the notorious
“windows of opportunity”. Is there a window of time for learning language, motor skills, and
visual processing? Participants will walk away from this experience with a sound
understanding of what happens in the developing brain and AWESOME strategies to enrich
this development. Participants will be offered the opportunity to continue learning from
John and with others through the use of a blog. John will set up the blog for those who
would like to be a part of this virtual community of practice. More information on joining
this group will be presented at the workshop.
Biographical Information: John has worked as an educator and staff developer for many years. His interest in
brain research began while working on his Master’s degree. This interest led him to Eric Jensen, world
renowned brain-based learning expert and staff developer and his certification by the Jensen Learning
Corporation. John has presented locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally on the role of brain research
in education. His engaging and participatory style makes his presentations learning experiences that will not
soon be forgotten.
