									PowerPoint Presentation: What is it and How Do You Create One PowerPoint is a way to present information to an audience. A PowerPoint presentation consists of slides with text and/or graphics. Slides are connected with transitions and effects. Slides may be viewed on a computer screen by a small number of people or may be viewed by a large audience using a projection method. OBJECTIVES: 1. Create a PowerPoint Presentation with a minimum of five slides; 2. Include appropriate text on each slide; 3. Include a minimum of two graphics that relate to topic; 4. Use transitions, effects, and backgrounds appropriately; 5. Use correct spelling and grammar OUTLINE: 1. Decide on information for each slide. (To be completed in class prior to coming to computer lab.) 2. Type information on each slide. 3. Insert clip art/pictures. 4. Apply design (background) to slides. 5. Apply transitions and effects to slides. 6. Rehearse slide show. 7. Present slide show. MATERIALS: 1. Handouts (Steps in Creating a PowerPoint Presentation; Happy Holidays Plan Sheet) 2. PowerPoint Presentation (PowerPoint Presentation: What is it and how do you create one) 3. Computers with Microsoft PowerPoint 4. Multi-media projector STANDARDS: Alabama Technology COS, Grades 6-8 10.) Apply productivity/multimedia tools and peripherals to support personal productivity, group collaboration, communication, and learning throughout the curriculum. 11.) Follow procedures to design, develop, publish, and present products using technology resources that demonstrate and communicate curriculum concepts to audiences inside and outside the classroom. 12.) LENGTH OF LESSON: Three class periods (This does not include research time or time for student presentation of product.)

Use transitions, effects, and backgrounds appropriately; 12. Use correct spelling and grammar STEPS IN CREATING A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION 1. Open Microsoft PowerPoint. 2. Select Blank Presentation (first time); Select Open Existing Presentation (after one has been saved). 3. Use “title slide” layout for first slide of presentation. 4. Click in text boxes to add title and sub-title. (For sub-title, type your name and period you have language.) 5. Click on New Slide icon or click on Insert and then click on new slide. 6. Select layout of new slide and click OK. 7. Click in text boxes and add copy. 8. Continue until you have created the number of slides you need. 9. When finished, exit PowerPoint correctly. INSERTING CLIP ART 1. Select layout that has a clip art box. 2. Enter text in text box for that slide. 3. Double click in clip art box to add clip art or click on “Insert” on menu bar and select “Picture” and then select either from “Clip Art” or “File.” If you select, “File,” you must tell program where to look for the file. 4. Select clipart/picture and click on Insert. NOTE: Clip art/picture can be added to layouts without “clip art box.” Click on “Insert” on menu bar and follow steps above. APPLYING DESIGN/BACKGROUND TO SLIDES 1. Select format. 2. Select Apply Design. 3. Scroll through available designs and select design you wish to apply and click on Apply.

ADDING TRANSITIONS/EFFECTS 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Change to Slide Sorter View. Highlight first slide. Select transition. (Transition is how new slide appears.) Select effect. (Effect is how text and/or clip art appears on slide.) Repeat steps for each slide. PREVIEWING/SHOWING SLIDE SHOW Change to Slide Sorter View. Highlight first slide. Click on Slide Show. Click on View Show. Press ENTER to change slides. SAVING SLIDE SHOW 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Click on File. Click on Save AS (first time slide show is saved). Click on Save in and change to appropriate drive and folder. Click in box for file name. For this lesson name your file with your first name and the first letter of your last name. 6. Click on Save. 7. After slide show has been saved the first time, the next time you wish to save your changes, Click on File and click on Save or click on the disc icon on the menu bar. CHANGING ORDER OF SLIDES 1. Change to slide Sorter Vies. 2. Drag slide you wish to rearrange and drop in new position.
