Classroom Activities

This class is taught in French. During each unit of study, students are exposed to a
variety of grammar concepts, new and review vocabulary, readings and listening
activities. Students view the segments that go with each chapter on the Bravo DVD and
also a variety of brief segments from the French channel TV5 that I have at home.
Students practice every segment of the AP test on two-week cycles. The listening part is
done in class. The fill in and verb sections are practice both as homework and in class.
At the beginning of the year, the students write their essays at home, but by the end of the
1st semester, the students write the essays in class and are allowed the same amount of
time as on the AP test and are graded with the same rubric. The speaking part is
practiced in class. I have the students’ names written on index cards, which I shuffle
regularly so that they have random turns speaking. I time them so that they speak for one
minute in response to each question.
