During this operation, detectives used one 19-year-old male and one 19-year-old female to purchase
alcohol, while a 16-year-old female was used to purchase tobacco. Although many of the locations were
randomly selected, some were targeted after receiving anonymous complaints from parents and concerned
citizens.

Chief of Police Freddy Drennan stated, “When we conduct these operations, we truly hope we’re
unsuccessful and make no arrests. No arrests means employees are doing their jobs and checking ID’s.
Although violations are down from past operations, we’re still catching employees who are illegally
selling alcohol and tobacco to underage people. I do appreciate the eleven businesses and their
employees who actually checked ID’s and prevented the sales of alcohol and tobacco. Those employees
are doing much more than their jobs – their doing the right thing.”

As a warning to all alcohol and tobacco outlets – These operations will continue. Hopefully, with well-
trained and responsible employees, we will be unsuccessful with the next operation. That is our goal and
that should be your goal.
