                                  NOTES FOR GUIDANCE

Please read these notes carefully before completing the application form.

About the Scholarship
In 1991 a trust fund was endowed in the University of Liverpool for the provision of John Lennon Memorial
Scholarships, in memory of John Lennon and recognising the interests in encouraging the higher education for
well-qualified students who would not otherwise be able to either enter or to remain in the University and
enhancing among other things awareness of global problems and environmental issues.

Eligibility
The John Lennon Memorial Scholarship is available to all prospective and current Home (UK) and EU students.
Please note that international or off site students and students from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine
are not eligible for application to this scholarship. In accordance with the donor's intentions, priority will be given
to applicants whose permanent residence is in Merseyside. All prospective students must have accepted an
offer to study at the University of Liverpool. Undergraduate applicants must have selected the University as their
first choice. Awards will be made on the basis of financial need and academic merit, and applicants should
demonstrate an active interest in global, community and environmental issues.

The Award
There are three competition streams for applicants and each applicant may enter only one:

 Undergraduate: One award of a grant of up to £1,500 tenable for one year only for an applicant
entering the final year of their degree

 Taught postgraduate and MRes: Up to four awards of a contribution of a maximum of £5135 towards
         tuition fees;

 PhD: A potential three awards of a contribution towards fees and/or maintenance of up to £7,500

Completing an application
You may, if you wish, print the application form and complete using block capitals before posting this to the
address provided below. Applications to this prestigious award are extremely competitive: you must ensure that
your application form is complete. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Receiving an award
Payment of an award is subject to the successful applicant receiving, accepting and taking up a place of study
at the University. Awards are usually credited to the recipient's tuition fee account in the first instance unless the
recipient can demonstrate that fees are being paid by another sponsor. Any amount owed to the award-holder
after fees are settled will be paid by BACS transfer. The scholarship will be adjusted pro-rata for part-time
students.
