The top advisors who make up executive council provide Great-West Life with ongoing feedback on a
variety of issues important to you. Representing all regions across Canada, these advisors are
recognized for their commitment to professional development, achieving business growth and contribution
to the future of Gold Key.
The 2012 executive council is:
Greg Glista, BA
Glista & Associates
A Gold Key advisor since 1991, Greg manages a diversified financial practice in Oakville, ON., handling
everything from group insurance to life and disability insurance. Gold Key runs in the family; His father,
Ted Glista, started Glista & Associates in 1957 and his mother, Marina, retired in 2011 after 30 years as a
Gold Key advisor. Greg is a graduate of the Richard Ivey School of Business Administration. He is a past
president of the Rotary Club of Mississauga.
Eastern Ontario region
David McCulloch has been associated with Great-West Life as a Gold Key advisor since beginning his
insurance career in 1995. Mentored by a top Great-West Life advisor early in his career, by 1996, David
was a member of President’s Circle and earned the Leading New Agent Across Canada award the same
year. David has qualified for all marketing conferences since his career began. Today, David is part of
Halpenny Insurance. He lives with his wife and family in Chelsea, Quebec.
Mikolash Insurance Services
British Columbia region
A graduate of Business Administration from Red River Community College, Jim Mikolash began his
career in the insurance industry with Great-West Life’s Group Pensions Department in Winnipeg. In 1980,
he became a group sales representative for Group insurance in Vancouver before becoming a Gold Key
advisor in 1988. Mikolash Insurance Services Inc., also focuses in areas of tax and estate planning for
business and high-net-worth clients. Outside of work, Jim plays golf, tennis and does volunteer work with

Les Assurances Benoit & Léo Théroux
Province of Quebec
For 30 years, Benoit Theroux has been affiliated with Great-West Life as a Gold Key advisor. He joined in
1981 and since then has received his CLU (1988) and financial planner designation (1993). A life member
of the President’s Council, Benoit took over the financial business from his father -- Les Assurances
Benoit & Léo Théroux. Outside of his practice, Benoit is socially active in his home city of Sorel-Tracy,
where he started an ecotourism project, Ecomonde du lac Saint-Pierre.

Laura Boden, B.A., CFP, CLU, CHS
Laura Boden has been affiliated with Great-West Life for more than 20 years. She graduated from Trent
University with a BA in economics and over the last two decades, has obtained her certified financial
planner (CFP), chartered life underwriting (CLU) and Certified Health Insurance Specialist (CHS)
designations. She focuses on wealth preservation and estate planning. Laura is also a member of CALU,
and sits on boards for both Advocis and the Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation.
Don Bristow, CLU
Brian Mallard and Associates
Don Bristow has been involved in the insurance and financial planning industry since 1992, when he
started in the business with London Life. While at Sanderson Securities, Ltd., (1998 to 2001), he obtained
his CLU designation and completed the securities course and trading authorization. In 2001, Don joined
Brian Mallard and Associates. Don spends most of his spare time with his family, and coaching sports
teams including basketball, baseball and hockey.
Scott Lissoway CFP, RHU
Discovery Financial Group Inc
Scott Lissoway has been working with Great-West Life since 1992. He attended community college, has
attained his CFP and registered health underwriter (RHU) designations. As the sole proprietor of
Discovery Financial Group Inc, Scott provides full financial planning, including life, living benefits and
investment services to clients. When not at work, he serves as vice chairman of the Queen Elizabeth II
Hospital Foundation and is involved with Advocis, Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce.
Andrew MacKinnon, CFP, CLU
SBW Wealth Management & Employee Benefits
A partner with SBW Financial in Nova Scotia, Andrew MacKinnon joined the financial services industry in
1999 and has been a member of Advocis ever since. He previously worked as Regional Manager of Life
Insurance Marketing with Great-West Life, and has more than 12 years of experience working in the
financial services industry. When he’s not at work, Andrew is involved with the Halifax Progress Club, and
actively coaches soccer and hockey in Halifax, among other activities.
John Ruggieri, FPL, CLU
Province of Quebec
John Ruggieri has been associated with Great-West Life since 1985, and a member of President’s Circle
since 1988. He graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1981. He and
his partner Angela DiCaprio started DiCaprio, Ruggieri Insurance Services in 1984, which became
Consortia in 2003. John served as chairman of the Agent’s advisory council in 2002 and was Selectpac
sales leader for Canada in 2001. Outside work, John is involved with charitable, political and industry
Wynn Sweatman, CLU, CFP, CH.F.C.
Sweatman Insurance & Retirement Services
Wynn entered the life insurance business in 1973 with Great-West Life. Since then, he has operated as
an agent and independent broker, achieving a high level of production in the life, group, pension and
investment business. He focuses primarily on the business markets. Wynn has volunteered for the
Misericordia Health Centre Foundation, the University of Manitoba and the Manitoba Theatre Centre,
among other projects. Wynn has been married to his high school sweetheart, Teddi, for more than 40
Ian Wilson has more than 12 years experience in the financial services industry. After graduating with a
Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan, he gained experience working as an account
manager, specializing in employee benefits before taking a job with a Calgary firm, managing IRIS. In
2007, he joined BenefitLink as an advisor. Outside of work, Ian volunteers and participates in several
sports and local charities, as well as sitting on boards for a youth and a sports organization.
The following Gold Key leaders completed their three-year commitment and are returning for one
final term to transition from their position and provide coaching and mentoring to newer
members. We thank them for their ongoing commitment.
Mike Clarke, CFP, CLU, CH.F.C.
Prizm Financial Inc
Mike Clarke started in the insurance industry in May 1972. After working with the London Life Employee
Benefits Division for 25 years, Mike left London Life in 1996 to start his own financial security services
company, Prizm Financial Inc., in Calgary, Alberta. Mike serves as President of Prizm Financial as well as
a financial security advisor. This year marks Mike’s 40th year in the insurance industry and 16th year for
Prizm Financial Inc.
Howard Murphy, CLU, CH.F.C.
Murphy Neil Financial Group
Howard Murphy began his career with Great-West Life as a Gold Key advisor in 1990. A graduate of
Memorial University with a Bachelor of Commerce, he’s a co-founder of Murphy Neil Financial Group. In
2009, Howard received the Best General Performance award from Great-West Life in 2008 and has
qualified for President’s Circle 19 times. He’s a member of Advocis, a lifetime member of the Million Dollar
Roundtable. When not working, Howard enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing and playing music.
Greg Schmidt has been in the financial services industry for 18 years, all of which he’s been associated
with Great-West Life. Before becoming a Gold Key advisor, Greg worked with the Investor’s Group, first in
their information technology department and then to Internal Audit. Greg works within a team of six
people, three being advisors, and three full-time assistants. When he’s not at work, Greg plays hockey,
golf and supports children’s activities.
Anna Stepec, CFP
Generis Financial Corp.
Anna Stepec has operated her own financial security practice, Generis Financial Corp Inc., in Toronto
since 2000. She immigrated to Canada from Poland in the 1970s – a move she credits with setting her on
a path of life-long learning. Anna entered the banking industry in the 1980s, but resigned in 1998 to
pursue an insurance and investment industry career. Anna holds a CFP designation, and is an active
member of Financial Planning Standards Council and Advocis.
Gary Winch, CLU

Gary Winch is founder of The Winch Group, an employee benefit consulting firm which has grown to be
one of Canada’s largest since its founding in 1994. After graduating from Laurentian University, Gary
started his career with Great-West Life and spent seven years in progressively more senior roles before
helping small and medium-sized companies with pension and benefit plans. Gary is a founding partner of
the Employer Benefit Advisors Inc. Outside of work, Gary volunteers with local minor sports.
