Ancient Egyptian Religion-To what degree did the religion influence the Egyptian’s daily lives? Pyramids: The pyramids were built as burial places for the pharaohs. They believed that the pharaoh needed certain items to be placed inside their pyramid for the afterlife. Inside Egyptians would place jewelry, furniture, statues of the gods and even food to take with them to the afterlife. Mummification: The afterlife was a very important belief of Egyptian culture. In order to prepare for the afterlife your body needed to be preserved. The Egyptians mummified their dead by embalming their bodies. This process was very lengthy and detailed. Afterlife: The Egyptians believed that after you died you went to another place where you lived another life – the afterlife. And when people died, the Egyptians put all the things in their tombs that they would need in the afterlife – furniture, clothes, knives, spoons, plates. Some things, that were too big they made drawings of – they considered that to be just as good. These were big drawings, carved on the walls of the tomb. Gods and Myths: Egyptians believed in a wide variety of gods and goddesses. They would pray to these gods for many different occasions. For example Thoth was the god of knowledge. He blessed the Egyptians with writing, medicine and mathematics.
