Versaly’s Market Niche: According to a recent report by industry research firm IDC, ringtones are now the most frequently downloaded type of content onto wireless phones. Forecasts project that more than three-quarters of a billion ringtones will be downloaded in 2008, with annual U.S. revenue expected to top $1.4 billion. Today’s global market is more than $2.5 billion. In Britain and Germany, ringtone sales are outselling CD singles. This extensive growth is due to a number of factors, including the youth markets’ embrace of the mobile phone and the growing trend toward personalization, the increased demand for entertainment content, as well as further involvement by the music industry. Other driving factors include the bundling of services along with ringtones such as screen savers and wallpapers, games and text messaging alerts.
