Title: Let God Arise in Our Practice of Faith
Introduction: Each of us has a desire to please God with our life. But what does it take
to please God? Some try rituals. Some try rules. Some try Religion.

Yet- Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe
that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Note - The foundation of a strong Christian life is faith.

Note - Two ways God builds our faith:

     1. The Word of God

        Romans 10:17
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

     2. Trials and Testing

        1 Peter 1:7
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth,
though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at
        the appearing of Jesus Christ:

Note - Sometimes, when the “the bottom drops out” we really can draw closer to the

Note - Because faith is pleasing to God, and because we desire Him to be glorified, let’s
notice 3 truths about faith from Hebrews 11- The Hall of Faith!

I. The Belief of Faith (verses 1-2)

        A. Faith is hoping when I cannot see.

Note - Faith is the substance.

            Joshua 6:2
And the Lord said unto Joshua see, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and
the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.

        B. Faith is believing when I cannot see.

Note - Faith enables a believer to take a firm hold on the future.

II. The Behavior of Faith

      James 2:17
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

      A. Faith is obeying when I cannot understand (verses 7-8).

         Note - 2 examples

               1. Noah – was warned of things he had not seen

Note – He had never seen rain, yet he prepared an ark! His faith
                   blessed his whole family.

                   2 Corinthians 5:7
For we walk by faith, not by sight:

               2. Abraham- verse 8 “When he was called…obeyed…”

Note – He was 75 years old, living in the Ur of Chaldee, yet he
                   trusted God.

Note – There are 1,050 commands in the New Testament alone!
Some may seem inconvenient, but they are always for the best.

                   Note – We don’t always understand, but…

                     Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all tine heart; and lean not unto thine own
understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall
                     direct they paths.

      B. Faith is giving when I don’t have it. (verse 4)

Note – Abel’s faith caused him to sacrifice to God. Giving and faith always
         go together.

Note – Many people give of their abundance, but faith causes me to give
when I don’t see (humanly) a way to give.

Quote – Oswald Chambers - “With Christ, it’s not how much we give, but
         how much we don’t give.”

Illustration – Wealthy Texan who gave his father elaborate gifts (hang
gliding lessons, rare albums). Last year he gave his father a talking bird that

called his dad and asked “How’d you like the bird?” His dad replied “It was

Note – We either give by reason or by revelation. When I give by reason, I
figure out what I can do. That doesn’t require faith. An atheist can give by
reason; you don’t have to believe God for that. When I give by revelation, I
pray and ask God to lead me. I trust Him.

          2 Corinthians 8:3
For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were
          willing of themselves;

       C. Faith is persisting when I don’t feel like it. (verse 27)
(400 years slavery – through the Red Sea)

Note - He endured – seeing him who is invisible.

Note - Moses didn’t base his actions on feelings, but on faith in
          God – He endured.

Illustration - One thing I’ve noticed about going forward and building.
is that you can expect to be hassled by Satan, but we must keep
          our eyes on the Lord.

Note - Faith is doing the right thing, even if I don’t feel like it.

          I John 5:4
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory
that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Note – When you feel like quitting today, remember verse 27.

III. The Blessing of Faith

       A. Faith is thanking God before I receive it. (verse 30)

Note – There was no way a bunch of ex slaves would take the most fortified
city in the world… but as they marched, they believed God had given Jericho
          to them!

Note – Faith is not believing that God can do something, it is believing that
          He will.

                                   Text: Hebrews 11:1-7

       B. Faith is trusting God even if I don’t get it. (verses 36-40)

           Note- verse 39

Quote - “God says I’ll meet all your needs not all your greeds!”

Illustration - You may have been turned down for a job etc… don’t give
           up on God!

Conclusion: The whole Christian life is really a life of faith. It begins with faith at
salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9). After salvation it continues by faith.

Test by Scriptures
Do you need to work on believing when you don’t see it?
Do you need to work on obeying when you don’t understand it?
Do you need to work on giving when you don’t have it?
Do you need to work on persisting when you don’t feel like it?
Do you need to work on thanking before receive it?
Do you need to work on trusting when you don’t get it?
