Software Quality Management • Software Quality : A complex concept Related to Intangible aspects of quality Specifying certain quality characteristics in an unambiguous way (e.g. maintainability , user friendliness, elegance ) Ensuring that a firm adopts standard and procedures does not ensure that the final product is a high quality product What is required -A quality culture: Every one responsible for product development is committed to achieving a high level of quality Organization must support people who are interested in these intangible aspects of quality and encourage professional behavior in all team members • Software quality management for large systems can be structured into three main activities • Quality assurance : The establishment of a frame work of organizational procedures and standards that leads to a high quality software • Quality planning : The selection of appropriate procedures and standards adopted from this framework adapted for a specific project. • Quality control : The definition and enactment of processes that ensure the software development team have followed project quality procedures . Process and Product quality • Relationship between product and process quality is more complex • Process quality management : • 1. Defining quality standards such as how and when reviews should be conducted • 2. Monitoring the development process to ensure that the standards are being followed • Reporting the software process to Project management and to the customer Quality assurance standards • Product standards : Applicable to the product being developed • Process standards define the process to be followed during software development , • Importance : Based on knowledge of best practices • Provide a frame work for implementing the quality assurance process • Assit in continuity of when work carried out by one person is take up and continued by the other • E.g.
