2002-2008 Not-For-Profit Sector o President/Chief Science Officer, Partnership for Cures, 2005-Present-Using unique healthcare/business skills and philanthropic passion to inspire medical research that leads to better diagnostics, treatments and cures for orphan and other catastrophic diseases in two years or less. Innovation created first ever successful treatments for two children’s diseases, ALPS (autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome) and FD (familial dysautonomia) and several breakthroughs for blood cancer and neuromuscular diseases. o President/ Chief Science Officer Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships, 2002-2005 Worked with founders to create and implement the mission, vision and business plan for this start-up private operating foundation; crafted initial partnerships with Mayo Clinic, Harvard, Stanford, Sloan Kettering, and Rockefeller Brothers Fund and many others. Served as Chief Development Officer, and managed Executive, Science and Lay Advisory Boards. Generated over $4.5M in direct research funding and more than $20M of follow-on funding for researchers searching for cures for orphan and other catastrophic diseases. Transitioned this private operating foundation into the Partnership for Cures public charity. 2000-2002 President/Owner-Operator Dairy Queen of Highland Park-Purchased local business to recharge my batteries and reconnect with my family and community after 11 years of 60+ hour work weeks and 50%+ travel. I enjoyed the creativity and working with young adults, getting to know the customers, and eating the ice cream! We implemented a successful fund-raiser program for schools and non-profit organizations. We received Dairy Queen corporate citation for Quality, Value, Service and Cleanliness. I had a triple dip blast working with my wife and 2 kids, and then sold the business to my 18 year old assistant manager who has now completed college while successfully running the business. I sold this business as it was too physically demanding for me and no one in my family was eager to succeed me. 1993-2000 Insurance-Professional Liability, Business Owner, Worker’s Comp and Employment Liability o Senior Vice President, Kemper Casualty Company, 1999-2000-Recruited to this $3 billion mutual insurer to create a new Professional Liability Health Care division. Our team developed innovative B2B and B2C ecommerce programs for before our new division was shut down as the company prepared to go public. o CNA Insurance Company, 1993-1999-Rapidly rose through the ranks of one of the largest insurance companies in the US in diverse functional roles to become Senior Vice President. P&L responsibility grew from $300,000 to $200 million in 6 years based upon success of my teams in demanding assignments. I left this position when I was recruited to Kemper Insurance. o Senior Vice President, 1997-1999- Held complete P&L and operational responsibility for $200 million National Programs Business Unit with more than 100 team members. Created sales partnerships with Oregon Medical Association Program and national Dental, Nursing, Allied Health, Chiropractic, & Optometry associations. Coached terrific team of VPs of operations, human resources, finance, sales, marketing, legal, & IT. o Vice President, 1994-1997- Held complete P&L and operational responsibility for $100 million National Dental Program. Promoted to SVP and served on senior management merger team in key strategic and operational roles during 1995 merger of CNA and Continental Insurance. First noninsurance professional promoted to senior management. Left position via internal promotion. o Director, Dental Loss Control Services, 1993-1994-Dentist-lawyer recruited to overhaul risk management and marketing programs for market leader losing market share to dentist-owned companies. Doubled seminar attendance and helped lower loss ratio and increase market share and profitability within 18 months. Left position via internal promotion. 1989-1993 Director, Professional Relations and Clinical Affairs, Bausch and Lomb Oral Care Division- Senior member of oral care product development team and led clinical research efforts at this $140 million division. Managed 30+ clinical studies in 9 international locations. Cut costs and completion time of clinical trials by 50%. Played key role in FDA review/approval process. Trained company employees worldwide. Company’s chief liaison to ADA and other professional associations. Left this position when company asked me to relocate to Atlanta.

Coached and managed staff of 8 professionals and 6 support staff. Left this position for more expansive opportunity with Bausch and Lomb that would better use the law degree I had just completed.
