Farewell, Don Ray (1945-2005) – A more stalwart and steadfast member of NACM MidAmerica than Don Ray
will be hard to find. Don died Friday, September 23, 2005. Don was Credit Manager of Federal Corporation in Oklahoma City for 40 years and a very actively involved member with the PHAC and Industrial groups of NACM for just as long. When he was not serving on our associations’ board of directors, he served as a special board liaison for his expertise and guidance on complicated computer, software and technical matters. We held our breath when Don first suffered from a ruptured colon in September 2004, but we relaxed a little when he came back to work a few weeks later. Our hearts sank when we learned of his cancer diagnosis and we ached for him as we watched this man, a pillar of quiet strength, erode from the devastation of the cancer and its accompanying treatment. Watching him deal with such physical and emotional pain made us all hurt with and for him. Don’s personality was sort of like a real-life “Grumpy” of the Seven Dwarfs; gruff on the surface but a true and helpful friend beneath the façade. But Don was no dwarf in either stature or spirit. He was a good husband, father, and Grandfather. He was a good Credit Manager to Federal Corporation for 40 years; he was a good member of NACM, and he was a good friend. Goodbye Don and Farewell. Your sixty years with us on earth was not quite enough.

Subcontractors Organization (ASA of Oklahoma) Recognized – American Subcontractors
Association of Oklahoma, led by Francie Dix, was awarded the National ASA Merit Award for 2004-2005. This is the third time in as many years since their formation in 2002 that ASA of Oklahoma has been recognized for their accomplishments. Previous awards have been for fastest growth and leadership, and another for legislative activity when the Oklahoma Fair Pay Act passed. ASA board members Phil Burgess, Burgess Co., and David Knox, Knox Glass Co., accepted the award on behalf of ASA of Oklahoma during the ASA 2005 Leadership Forum held in September in San Antonio, TX. Congratulations Francie and the entire leadership of ASA of Oklahoma.
