					SPECIFICATIONS                  SECTION 3               PART 030100            GENERAL


PART 030100               GENERAL
This Section generally encompasses, but not limited to, quality control requirements of construction
materials involved, standard of workmanship, concrete construction requirements, such as mixing,
transporting, placing, compacting, finishing, and curing of cement concrete. Manufacturing of concrete
shall be from the approved materials all in accordance with the requirements of these Specifications and
quality control standards where referred or as approved by the Engineer. Concrete placing shall conform
to the lines, grades and typical sections as shown on the drawings or as directed by the Engineer. Where
necessary these Specifications may be supplemented by providing the Special Provisions.
Under various parts of this Section, related references / regulatory requirements such as ASTM, ACI and
British Standards are appropriately referred where required. Submittal requirements, quality control
requirements, tolerances and construction requirements are described in detail. Method of measurements
and payments are also covered under various parts of this section where required. Brief prologue of the
articles covered under each part of this section of specifications is given below. These may be
supplemented up to certain extent, where deemed necessary to meet the project specific requirements, in
the Special Provisions to these Specifications.

RELATED SECTIONS
Particular Sections related to the specific part are listed in this article.
REFERENCE
Various standards related to the works specified in the specific part are referred in this article. Any
particular standard may be referred, as deemed necessary to meet the project specific requirements, in
the Special Provisions to these Specifications.

Various terminologies used under a specific part of the Section are defined in this article.
SOURCE APPROVEL
Procedures and requirements related to approval of material source are specified in this article.
PERFORMANCE CRITERIA / QUALITY REQUIREMENTS
Performance criteria and quality requirements meeting the specified standards are provided under this
article.
SUBMITTALS / SAMPLES
Requirement of submittals and samples to be fulfilled by the contractor are specified in this article.
QUALITY ASSURANCE AND TESTING
Requirement and frequency of various quality control tests to be carried out for quality assurances are
given in this article.
MATERIALS
Materials related to the works specified under a specific part of Section are listed in this article. Whereas
the detailed specifications of each individual material including quality control requirements and relevant
standards are covered under a separate part of particular Section titled as “Construction Materials” which
is linked with this article.
DELIVERY AND STORAGE
Methods and requirements of delivery and storage for materials are covered under this article.

EXECUTION
This article includes preparation, erection, application, work methods, techniques and sequence of
construction.
TOLERANCE
Maximum permissible limits in deviation of sections and dimensions of various executed work
components form drawings are specified in this article.
METHOD OF MEASUREMENTS AND PAYMENTS
Method of measurements and payments is given in this article. This article may be amended in Special
Provision meeting the specific project requirements and as per Bill of Quantities (BoQ).
PRE-CONCRETE CONFERENCE
A meeting should be conducted at least 15 days prior to submittal of design mixes, in order to review
proposed methods of concrete construction to achieve the required results. Agenda of the meeting should
include but is not limited to:
1.      Submittals.
2.      Coordination of work.
3.      Availability of materials.
4.      Concrete mix design including admixtures.
5.      Methods of preparation, transporting, placing, finishing, and curing of concrete.
6.      Finish criteria required to obtain required flatness and levelness.
7.      Timing of floor finish measurements.
8.      Material inspection and testing.
Attendees should include but not limited to representatives of Engineer/Consultants, Contractor,
Subcontractors involved in supplying, conveying, placing, finishing, and curing concrete and materials.
Contractor shall take minutes of the meeting and distribute these minutes to the attendees within five
days of the meeting.
