                              Four Specific Programmes
         Corresponding to four major objectives of European research policy
        Cooperation (32413 million Euro)
             Support will be given to the whole range of research activities
             carried out in trans-national cooperation
        Ideas (7510 millon Euro)
             An autonomous European Research Council will be created to
             support investigator-driven “frontier research”.
        People (4750 million Euro)
             The activities support training and career development of
             researchers, referred to as “Marie Curie” actions,
        Capacities (4097 million Euro)
             Key aspects of European research and innovation capacities will
             be supported: research infrastructures; research for the benefit of
             SMEs; regional research driven clusters.

                                      Cooperation
            Support will be provided to trans-national co-operation at every scale
            across the European Union and beyond, in a number of thematic
            areas corresponding to major fields of the progress of knowledge and
            technology, where research must be supported and strengthened to
            address European social, economic, environmental and industrial
            challenges

          • Conforms to the Ultra Green HLTC of ACARE’s Strategic
              Research Agenda
          • Embraces both the global issue of climate change (CO2,
              Nox, Soot, water vapour, particulates) as well as the local
              issues of noise and air quality
          • Addresses green engine technologies, alternative fuels,
              novel aircraft /engine configurations, intelligent low-
              weight structures, improved aerodynamic efficiency,
              airport operations and air traffic management as well as
              manufacturing and recycling processes.

             Increasing Time Efficiency
              • Conforms to the Highly Time Efficient HLTC of ACARE’s Strategic
                   Research Agenda.
               •   Aims at significant reduction of journey time through maintaining
                   flight time within schedule and minimising the time that passengers
                   have to spend in airports in the travel-related process.
               •   Addresses the development and implementation of an innovative
                   air traffic managements system integrating the air, ground and
                   space components, and featuring greater automation, flexibility and
                   aircraft autonomy.
               •   Addresses as well airlines and airports operations.

            Ensuring Customer Satisfaction and Safety
              •   Conforms to the Highly Costumer Oriented HLTC of ACARE’s
                  Strategic Research Agenda, underlining the safety objective.
              •   Aims at a quantum leap in passengers choice and schedule
                  flexibility as well as at a significant reduction in accident rate
                  in respond to the forecasted growth in air travel demand.
              •    Addresses the technologies and services which will enable a
                  transport system with a wider choice of aircraft ranging from very
                  large airliners, medium size, business jets, tilt rotors to personal,
                  small-size aircraft, with the highest levels of safety as well as
                  comfort, health conditions and services.

                  Improving Cost Efficiency
           •   Conforms to the Highly Cost Efficient HLTC of ACARE’s Strategic
               Research Agenda.
           •   Embraces all the cost that arise in the whole air system design and
               operation.
           •   Addresses the tools and technologies required to enhance the whole
               enterprise process, including the integration of the supply chain, from
               conceptual design to product development and manufacturing
               including in-service operations.
           •   Addresses as well the developments needed towards the zero-
               maintenance aircraft, as well as towards lean airport, aircraft and air
               traffic management operations for substantial reduction of operating
               cost.

         Protection of Aircraft and Passengers
               • Conforms to the Ultra Secure Air Transport System
                    HLTC of ACARE’s Strategic Research Agenda.
               • Aims to making impossible that an attacking force of
                    any kind succeeds in creating injury, loss, damage or
                    disruption either on the travellers or on citizens.
               • Addresses aircraft security systems, including
                    cockpit and cabin monitoring and protection as
                    well as controlled aircraft operation and landing from
                    ground, secured airspace management and
                    communication networks, as well as airport security
                    systems.

            Pioneering the Air Transport of the Future
                   •    Stretches the Vision 2020 horizon to explore and pioneer the
                        more radical, revolutionary, environmentally efficient and
                        innovative technologies that might configure the step
                        changes required in the air transport of the second half of this
                        century.
                   •     Relies on stimulating ideas across all the stakeholders,
                        particularly academia and research institutions and setting
                        technologies incubators to nurture the future.
                   •    Addresses new concepts of propulsion and lifting, new
                        forms of guidance and control, new ideas for interior space
                        of air vehicles, including the concept of off-shore air stations,
                        personal transport systems including the use of urban-space,
                        etc.

                                    Commitment of the Industry
                  to the Joint Technology Initiative “Clean Sky”
          Industry Long Term Strategic Technical Plans are made consistent
           with the JTI RTD activities, and integrate their results.
          The JTI needs the participation of Research centres, universities,
           SMEs in addition to the whole European aeronautical supply chain.
           These will be involved through a transparent process.
          Industry is committed to participate into the JTI during the total
           duration by contributing in kind in parallel to the EU grants.
          Industry is committed to SMEs participation level at 12% target.
          New Member-States participation will be promoted, supported and
           facilitated
