RACE AMERICA
1. PURPOSE: Designed to provide a working knowledge of the electronic fitness equipment.
Five machines are used in this program: --Upright/Recumbent Bike --Stair Stepper --Rowing Machine --Cross Trainer/Elliptical --Treadmill
2. OBJECTIVE: The program will allow you to map your way from Boston, MA, to Los
Angeles, CA. You will bike and walk the highways, cross lakes and rivers, and climb mountains.
3. PARTICIPATION: All active duty, DoD employees, retirees, contractors, and dependents. 4. RULES: All participants must sign up for Race America in order for the staff to keep track of
their progress.
A. Rules for the machines:
(1) Upright/Recumbent Bike – Used to ride the highways. The program used is RANDOM. (2) Stepper – Used to climb the two mountain ranges. The program used is HILL, with climbing action (if available). (3) Cross Trainer – Used to ski down the mountain ranges. The program used is MANUEL. (4) Rower – Used to cross rivers such as Lake Erie. (5) Treadmill – Used to walk the highways toward the end of the journey. The program used is MANUEL.
5. HOW TO START: Once you sign up at the front desk; check the attached pages to verify
which machine to start with. Now you are ready to begin the race. Each time, record your mileage on the cards provided.
