PERFORMANCE REVIEW

Every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday:

   1. Sing a major scale, ascending and descending, on scale degrees.
   2. Sing a major scale in thirds: 1 3 2 4 3 5, etc.
   3. At the piano, play a D Major triad and be able to sing the following
      patterns:
          a. 1235; 1435; 1365; 7135; 2135
          b. 3215; 3715; 4315; 3165; 2315
          c. 1543; 7153; 2153; 1523; 1653
   4. Sing a harmonic minor scale, ascending and descending, on scale
      degrees.
   5. At the piano, play a D minor triad and be able to sing the following
      patterns in minor:
          a. 1235; 1435; 1365; 7135; 2135
          b. 3215; 3715; 4315; 3165; 2315
          c. 1543; 7153; 2153; 1523; 1653

Check off the days as you do the exercises:

Every Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday:

   1. At the piano, play the following scales in root position, first inversion and
      second inversion: G Major, F Major.
   2. Rhythm: Conduct while singing 1.B, 1.F, 2.G, 5.D
   3. Sight-singing: Conduct while singing on scale degrees #58, 67, 74, 108.

1. Write the indicated scales, ascending and descending. You may use your
notes from class. Pay attention to details like clef, major or minor, what type of
minor, etc.

numerals. (Refer to the worksheets “Root Position at the Keyboard” and “First
Inversion at Keyboard” for help.)

5. Now, label the previous patterns as belonging to tonic, subdominant, or
dominant. Use Roman numerals. Remember that your Roman numerals
change depending on whether you are in a minor or major key.


6. Make up your own tonic, subdominant, and dominant patterns! Remember
that in minor keys the dominant uses a raised scale degree 7, like in the
harmonic minor scale.
