Projected SoundScans: 800/500/300

Katatonia was formed in 1991 by Anders Nyström and Jonas Renske & their debut album, ‘Dance of
December Souls’, was released in 1993, gaining the band recognition for their eclectic brand of gothic
doom/death metal & joining acts such as Paradise Lot & My Dying Bride as one of the genre’s defining
bands. On future albums a newer, sleeker Katatonia sound came to the fore, starting with a streamlined &
structured collection of melodic dark rock songs that became third album ‘Discouraged Ones’; the main
evolution point for modern day Katatonia. On the back of the monumental & most successful album to
date, 2006’s ‘The Great Cold Distance’ - including 3 singles & an American & European tour - there came
a period of soul-searching from the Swedes, facing a task of making a worthy & relevant successor to the
ground-breaking album. With a conscious effort not to merely repeat themselves, Katatonia took their
time with their next steps, while Anders & Jonas also remained busy with death metal group Bloodbath,
alongside Mikael & Martin from Opeth.

‘Night is the New Day’ is Katatonia’s eighth studio album. It was recorded throughout July 2009 & was co-
produced, engineered and mixed by David Castillo.
A continuation of the heaviness, depth & atmosphere of their previous album, ‘Night Is the New Day’ is
also a more multi-dimensional effort - waltzing between prog moments, doom, folk & the classic melodic
anthems that are the staple of Katatonia’s uncompromising sound, completed by the haunting tones of
Jonas Renkse’s vocal journeys of urban & emotional decay.
Pre-release support for this release includes a full press release, tracks promoted on MySpace Metal and
Sirius XM radio, radio promotion by Heavy Hitter, banner ads on all appropriate websites, and much
more, with plans continuing well into 2010.

AK/11.98
Projected SoundScans: 50/50/50

Third album of twisted & groove-laden Goth/Prog metal, including bonus track.
Female fronted Norwegian act Madder Mortem formed in 1993 as Mystery Tribe, and recorded the
demo ‘Days in Sorrow’. The name was subsequently changed to Madder Mortem, and in 1997, the CD
‘Misty Sleep’ was recorded. ‘Deadlands’ was the third album for the band. It was recorded over a period
of 3 weeks at Sweden’s Studio Underground in May 2002 & saw the light of day later that year. Shortly
after the album’s release the band embarked upon a 6 week European tour with fellow Scandinavian
prog masters Opeth, due to Mikael Akerfeldt's personal interest in the band. ‘Deadlands’ is a fine blend
of the best of Goth and Progressive Metal, with technical riffing & soothing melodic passages finely
woven together in Madder Mortem’s own unmistakable style. The album contains a darker, more
groove-oriented approach than on previous albums, topped with Agnete Kirkevaag’s beautifully
expressive, often angst-ridden vocals.

This re-issue features extensive liner notes written by Agnete, & includes a bonus song taken from
Madder Mortem’s 1997 demo, which was developed into album track ‘Resonatine’.

 The song features a lively Dixieland horn chart courtesy of Allen Toussaint. "When I Paint

the most respected exponents of modern blues the UK has seen since the blues boom of the 1960’s. It is
from this period, that brothers Stevie and Alan Nimmo first drew their influences, which makes them the
fine musicians they are today. Inspired by such greats as Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac and John Mayall’s
Bluesbreakers they had no doubt that when the time came, they too would produce original compositions fuelled by
that very same passion for the blues shared by their idols. Now in 2009 The Nimmo sound is stronger and more
powerful than ever as they dust down the old orange valve amps and haul out their treasured Les Pauls

Few Post-War Afro-American gospel collections have been issued. Here is an eye-opening compilation
featuring some of the best examples of a stunning music and soloists many of whom went on to make
larger reputations in other musical disciplines. Many of the sides featured here are reissued for the first
time. The elements of gospel music came together during the early 1930s. There were several reasons,
the most significant of which was the migration of southern sharecroppers to factory jobs in cities. Many
new songs replaced older, more formal hymns as the clergy came around to the vitality and fresh colors
of this new form. Soon, the Baptist Convention was encouraging songwriters and gospel stylists to
organize in churches throughout the United States. Weekly network broadcasts featured groups such as
The Golden Gate Quartet, Charioteers, Jubalaires, Wings Over Jordan and many others. This helped
accelerate widespread recognition of the gospel music phenomenon. Often as, say with Mahalia
Jackson, it has burst from its religious confines to reach a national and international audience.
Today, gospel has been hybridised into AC Pop, Hip Hop Gospel, Gospel Rap, Praise Singing and
Gangsta Gospel. Additionally, it is acknowledged as a major influence on the mainstream, both in terms
of the music itself and the multitude of performers (Della Reese, Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin among
many others) who have 'crossed-over'.

Compilation and notes are by Opal Louis Nations, an expert in the field.

The Gennett record label lacked the commercial clout of, say, Victor or Columbia. However it became
an important player in the early recording of jazz. Gennett was a division of the Starr Piano Company,
situated in Richmond, Indiana. The manufacture of phonographs, then records to play on them, was
seen as a lucrative sideleine
As with other record labels of the time, Gennett started with popular and classical recordings. By the
early 1920s it was obvious that the upstart jazz would have to be added to the catalogue, and it then
became a matter of finding talent. It seems that Fred Wiggins, manager of the Starr Piano showroom
alerted Gennett to the potential of the New Orleans Rhythm Kings, then Chicago residents. Their debut
(as the Friars Society Orchestra) in the Gennett studios at Richmond was 29th August 1922 when they
cut four sides, all of which appear here. Sales success was immediate. The N.O.R.K. were back in
Richmond the following March and July. The July session included pianist Jelly Roll Morton on five
tracks and may represent one of the earliest integrated jazz sessions.
Having found the new music to sell even better than they might have expected, the Gennett
management cast their net wider. As a result, their catalogue reads like a Who's Who of early Jazzmen.
Names like King Oliver, Miff Mole, Bix Beiderbecke, Johnny Dodds, Sidney Bechet and Louis Armstrong
are a tribute to the relatively small label's good taste and opportunism. Remastering adds to a true feast
of early Jazz

Raven presents two original, essential albums on one CD by Country legends CHET ATKINS
and JERRY REED: the Grammy Award-winning Me and Jerry (1970) and Me and Chet (1972).
When two of the greatest guitar players in the history of Country music teamed up for these
classic instrumental albums (originally released on RCA Victor), the results were refined, joyous
and highly entertaining. A true Country legend, Atkins had made an indelible impression as a
session guitarist and record producer for over 20 years and by the early 1970s was intent on
expanding his range. Reed was coming off the success of hits like ‘Georgia Sunshine’, ‘Amos
Moses’ and ‘When You’re Hot’ and these good-natured sessions allowed the duo to let loose in
the studio. On Me and Jerry Atkins’ playing is precise and tasteful while Reed is typically brash
and rollicking, with covers of pop hits ‘Bridge over Troubled Water’ and ‘MacArthur Park’, plus
Merle Travis’ ‘Cannonball Rag’ and Reed compositions ‘Nut Sundae’ and ‘Stump Water’. Second
time around, Me and Chet is another brilliant session of instrumental guitar interplay. All country
tunes, with Reed’s ‘Jerry’s Breakdown’ highlighting the pickers displays of speed while ‘Good
Stuff’ is slow and swampy. The highlight is a spirited take on ‘Mystery Train’. “There isn’t a bad
track, as the two pickers trade licks gleefully, sparking off each other” – Allmusic Guide. With
bonus tracks, superb quality audio, detailed notes, colour booklet.

302/612657030226) 11/10/09 I/O:500 AV/21.98
Projected SoundScans: 50/50/50

Raven presents two original, classic JIM CAPALDI albums on one CD for the first time: Oh How We
Danced (Island, 1972) and Whale Meat Again (Island, 1974). Long out of print, these two albums
marked the beginnings of a lengthy and successful solo career. While best remembered for his role in
Traffic – one of the most inventive and fondly remembered Brit bands of the psychedelic and
progressive eras – Capaldi was always a driven and inspired musician capable of creating ebullient and
enduring work. Oh How We Danced featured Muscle Shoals musicians David Hood, Roger Hawkins,
Barry Beckett and Jimmy Johnson on most tracks, plus Traffic members Steve Winwood, Chris Wood,
Rick Grech, Jim Gordon and Rebop on the joyous ‘Open Your Heart’. Free guitarist Paul Kossoff also
features heavily on the blistering ‘Oh How We Danced’. There’s a real soulfulness and buoyancy to love
songs like ‘Eve’, ‘Big Thirst’ and ‘Love is All You Can Try’. The smouldering ballad ‘Don’t Be a Hero’
takes a darker turn. Whale Meat Again yielded his first US hit ‘It’s All Right’, the bluesy title track, the
soulful ‘Yellow Sun’, the gritty ‘Low Rider’ and the vibrant ‘I’ve Got So Much Lovin’’. The Muscle Shoals
guys and Winwood were on hand again. These two original albums on the one disc represent great
value for fans of classic early 1970s rock. With superb quality audio, detailed liner notes, colour booklet.

WALL OF VOODOO “Dark Continent / Call of the West (2-for-1)” (RAV-CD-
309/612657030929) 11/10/09 I/O: 500
AV/21.98
Projected SoundScans: 50/50/50

Raven presents two original, innovative WALL OF VOODOO albums on one CD for the first time: Dark
Continent (I.R.S., 1981) and Call of the West (I.R.S., 1982). Wall of Voodoo emerged from the late
1970s Los Angeles punk/alternative scene with a unique blend of machine-age junk music and off-kilter
pop-rock. Like Devo, Wall of Voodoo’s sound was always challenging and entertaining, or as once
described, “classy Halloween music, scary but pleasantly so”. The debut Dark Continent was brilliantly
executed with a blend of hyperactive rhythm box beats, Western and film noir-influenced guitar,
colourful washes of synthesizer and lead singer Stan Ridgway’s distinctive vocals and highly stylised
cinematic narratives. Tracks like ‘Back in Flesh’ and ‘Full of Tension’ dealt with tense relationships in a
suitably dark manner. Allmusic Guide “If originality and artistic vision are any measure of a rock album’s
worth, Dark Continent delivers on both counts”. Call of the West is livelier and even more articulate,
yielding the now-classic alternative hit ‘Mexican Radio’. ‘Lost Weekend’ and ‘Factory’ examined the
quiet tragedy of suburban existence. There’s intelligence at work and a bite to the music that continues
to mark Call of the West as a successful and altogether satisfying work. Ridgway left the band in 1983
for a prominent solo career and the band continued for another five years. With superb quality audio,
detailed liner notes, colour booklet.

Selling Points:
 The album’s lead-off cut, “She Looks a Lot Like You”, purportedly made a measurable
splash on MTV during the channel’s infancy. The Clocks played fairly
straight-down-the-middle AOR rock a la Off Broadway USA, The A’s, and arguably, even
Cheap Trick. Flourishes of keyboard, especially on the animated “19”, exude faint “wave”
tendencies, but not enough to jettison them into that threshold. There was no immediate
follow-up to Clocks, however 2004 saw the release of a “new” Clocks album, The Black
Box, on Zip Records, featuring early demos, and some new tunes spawned from reunion
        sessions during 2003.

Selling Points:
 Rubicon was a one-hit wonder pop music group from the United States, who had a hit
single in 1978 with “I m Gonna Take Care of Everything”. The song peaked at #28 on the
Billboard magazine national singles charts, spending 11 weeks on the Hot 100.
 Rubicon was formed in San Francisco by Jerry Martini, who was an original member of
Sly & the Family Stone. Other members of the group included Greg Eckler (vocals,
drums), Brad Gillis (guitar), Max Haskett (horns), Dennis Marcellino (horns), Jim Pugh
(keyboards) and Jack Blades (bass). Their first album, entitled “Rubicon”, generated their
only chart single. They released a second album, entitled “American Dreams”, before
disbanding. Brad Gillis and Jack Blades went on to form Night Ranger, who had much
        greater success than Rubicon.

wing of Canadian producer extraordinaire Bruce Fairbairn (Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Van Halen).
Sadly Bruce died in 1999. Opening tune S.O.S. is a classic, in a similar vein to Jefferson
Starships “Jane” and from there on in, the quality barely wavers. There’s even a touch of
hard rock in the AC/DC tainted “Born To Rock”. Quality stuff full of big hooks, darting
keys, and a great vocalist in Amanda Blue.

On his latest pressing, Broadside, The UK’s most dynamic contemporary bluesman shows
he is not only a killer
singer and imaginative songwriter, but also stylistically adventurous. This all-
original album, with eight of the ten tracks written by Siegal, starts in familiar Siegal territory
 but then broadens to
cover his love of all things Americana, resulting in his most exciting and perhaps most com
mercial release to date.

After two successful full length records and five years of touring Europe, by now !DelaDap are considered
among the worldwide respected fixtures in both world music- as well as the club scene. Some of the
notable highlights in those eventful years were two nominations for the “price of German record critics”, and
their performance in front of 10.000 thrilled fans and several live-radio-concerts on German WDR, Austrian
ORF and Radio Troika in Poland.
Furthermore !DelaDap seized the chance to present their spirited show to worldwide expert public at the
Sevilla World-Music fair WOMEX 2007. In the neighboring country Hungary they are already reckoned
as an international top act, annually invited to the major festivals and played on popular
tv and radio stations. Now the group finally release their third album Sara La Kali.
This new longplayer emphasizes even more the magic of the voices of the three wonderful singers.
There is a mystery that lives in the lyrics in the Roma – a language that made its way from ancient India
and survived
for centuries without a written word –and transported miracles and wonders from one generation to another
until now.
And finally there is the energy rooted in the emotions with which the musicians play their eastern European
instruments, such as Violin, Guitar and Accordion. This is combined with powerful and artfully set beats
which gives DelaDap it’s very original touch.
Sara la Kali -- also referred to as the Black Madonna or the Queen of Gypsies -- is the patron saint
of the Roma. According to early Christian legends, she was a slave woman who fled Egypt and found
and fostered Mary Magdalene who at that time, according to the legends, was pregnant carrying Jesus’
child.

I/O: 1,000 CQ/16.98
Projected SoundScans: 100/100/100

Traffic’s historic 1967 debut LP (Produced by noted studio vet Jimmy Miller) was released in the
UK as “Mr. Fantasy”, but initially reached U.S. shores in altered form as “Heaven Is In Your
Mind/Mr. Fantasy”. The American edition featured an altered track listing and new cover art with
pictures of Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood, but not Dave Mason, who had quit the
band. The US version added the British singles “Paper Sun,” “Hole In My Shoe,” and “Smiling
Phases” to the album’s running order, along with a short snippet of the UK single “Here We Go
‘Round The Mulberry Bush” as a recurring motof between the tracks. In any form, and with any
title, this album ranks as one of the most audacious and inventive albums of it’s time. It combines
stylistic adventurousness with effortless melodic appeal and captures early stirring of prog rock
and jazz fusion. Sundazed’s new vinyl edition completely restores the album’s original US cover
art. The LP also features the album’s incredibly rare mono mix, which differs substantially from
the more familiar stereo version. Pressed on pristine high definition vinyl.

This 1966 release is generally regarded as the Blues Project’s peak as a recording unit. It

Steve Katz, bassist Andy Kulberg and drummer Roy Blumenfeld. “Projections” became a
fixture on the emerging underground FM album rock radio format with such enduring tracks
as the garagey Kooper-sung rocker “Wake Me, Shake Me,” Kalb’s epic blues showcase
“Two Trains Running,” Katz’s resonant take on Bob Lind’s folk-rock standard “Cheryl’s
Going Home” and the spacey instrumental “Flute Thing,” featuring bassist Kulberg on the
title instrument. Sundazed’s new vinyl edition of this seminal LP features “Projections” rare
and unique original mono mix, along with complete original cover art, and is pressed on
high-defination vinyl for optimum sound quality.

“San Francisco Girls” was a hit on American underground FM radio in 1968 and is the centerpiece of
Fever Tree’s self titled first LP, one of the period’s most distinctive debut efforts. The quartet was adept at
incorporating jazz and classical influences, ambitious song structures and resourceful production touches.
Such memorable numbers as “The Sun Also Rises” and “Come With Me (Rainsong)” benefit from Dennis
Keller’s hypnotic vocals, Michael Knust’s dynamic guitar work and Rob Landes’ inventive keyboard
textures. Also included is a memorable medley of the Beatle’s “Day Tripper” and “We Can Work It Out”
and a unique interpretation of the Neil Young/Buffalo Springfield nugget “Nowadays Clancy Can’t Even
Sing”. Fever Tree’s expansive musical settings also feature key contributions from a pair of noted
arrangers David Angel, renowned for his work on Love’s “Forever Changes” and Gene Page, whose
resume includes work with the likes of Phil Spector and Marvin Gaye.

Mop Mop is the brainchild of Andrea Benini, musician, producer, and dj who has been active for more
than ten years exploring a large variety of musical genres, from club to jazz music. “Kiss of Kali” is the
name of his second album which will be released on Infracom. Mop Mop's first album The 11th Pill has
received a lot of recognition from musical critics who insert the combo between the most important nujazz
artists.
The single “Perfect Day”has obtained good international success and recognition through DJ s like
GILLES PETERSON, MICHAEL RUETTEN, SIMON HARRISON, and DOM SERVINI, just to name a few.
Several musicians joined MOP MOP during the recording sessions for “Kiss of Kali” -- like Latin piano
player and composer ALE TREBO, “virtuoso” vibes player PASQUALE MIRRA, Down Beat Critics Poll
winner GIANLUCA PETRELLA, veteran jazz singer ALAN FARRINGTON and the London singer ROBINA
VEDA. MOP MOP's music shakes Jazz and eclectic club sound with an Italian taste that joins
international tendencies.

MOP MOP "...a bastard performance of modern jazz based on riffs looped till monotony...", (from Nestor
Ortiz
Oderigo, Dictionary of Jazz PBR 1961).

Key Markets: New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, Cincinnati,
Minneapolis, Baltimore, Atlanta, St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver, Los Angeles, Phoenix
Home Market: Birmingham, England
Selling Points:
 In the early 1970s Lol Mason, Steve Broughton, Max Thomas and Chris Dunn were
playing folk music in the Birmingham area. They toured the clubs of the Midlands until,
towards the end of 1975, they decided to turn professional. Meanwhile Broughton had
begun to write quite impressive songs. They were offered a recording contract by
Phonogram Records on condition that they change their name (they were called ‘Back In
the Band’) and add drums and electric guitar. This prompted them to recruit Roger Kent
        and Mike Slamer.
 Their first albums failed to impress the audience, although some critics gave quite
favorable reviews to City Boy (1975) and Dinner At The Ritz (1976). It was not until 1978,
and their hit song “5.7.0.5.”, and the subsequent album Book Early, that the public
        realized their potential.
 With complex harmonies co-developed by the band and producer Robert John “Mutt”
Lange, City Boy’s sound could best be described as an early Def Leppard. Lange would
later refine this sound in Leppard’s legendary recordings.
 They were able to repeat their success with their 1979 album, The Day The Earth Caught
Fire, and its title song as a single release. This album marked an early recording
appearance by Huey Lewis, who played harmonica on the second track “Only The End of
The World”. After that, Broughton left the band, but they had one more successful album
with Heads Are Rolling in 1980. Many critics believe this one to be their best, but then
their recording contract expired. In 1981 one last record, It’s Personal, failed to attract
any attention in North America, but it has now become a highly sought after release
worldwide. This is its first appearance on CD and is digitally remastered.

Nashville, Charlotte, Atlanta, Tampa, Baltimore, Minneapolis
Home Market: Charlotte, North Carolina
Selling Points:
 Sammy Johns is an American country singer-songwriter, best known for his million selling
        1975 hit single “Chevy Van”.
 After a move to Atlanta, Georgia, he was given a recording contract in 1973. General
Recording Corporation put out Johns’ first solo record “Early Morning Love” that year.
 Although he wrote a number of hit songs for other artists, Johns is best remembered for
the one he recorded himself, “Chevy Van”. The single drove up to #5 in the Billboard Hot
100 chart. It remained in the chart for 20 weeks and was awarded a gold disc by the
                           th
        R.I.A.A. on May 4 1975.
 After his eponymous debut album on the GRC record label, which included “Chevy Van”,
the singer signed a deal in 1976 with Warner-Curb, which resulted in Johns working on
the soundtrack to The Van, the first film to feature Danny DeVito. The 1982 New World
Records single “Falling for You” came to the attention of Elektra, and the company took
Johns on board and issued “Love Me off the Road” and “Common Man”. When country
artist John Conlee covered “Common Man”, the single went gold and topped the charts.
Conlee made the song his theme, and Johns continued writing songs for others.
 Those who have recorded Johns’ songs are Waylon Jennings, Sammy Kershaw, and
Conway Twitty. In 1985, Jennings serenaded the Statue of Liberty with Johns’ song
“America”, on a nationally broadcast event to mark the statue s restoration. The
performance helped turn the single gold, and “America” was nominated for song of the
year in country music circles. Johns’ “Desperado Love” also brought Twitty his final gold
record. Whilst Kershaw covered “Chevy Van” on his 1996 album, Politics, Religion and
       Her.

Key Markets: New York, Boston, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, Cleveland,

Selling Points:
 Nervus Rex was a New Wave pop band whose roots were in the New York City
independent music scene, its members frequenting clubs like CBGB’s and Max’s Kansas
City. The band’s founding members Lauren Agnelli and Shaun Brighton met one night at
CBGB’s and discovered a connection in a mutual appreciation for other new wave bands
playing at the time, including the Cramps and The Velvet Underground. Agnelli had been
working as a rock critic for Creem Magazine under the pen name Trixie A. Balm.
 Soon joined by Miriam Linna, drumming for the Cramps at the time and later, Jonathan
Gildersleeve, Nervus Rex started to develop an up tempo pop sound focusing on driving
surf guitar twang and danceable rhythms. In 1978 they released a single on Cleverly
Named records named “Don t Look”. Two years later Blondie producer Mike Chapman
signed the band to the Dreamland label. Nervus Rex only released a single album on
Dreamland, the 1980’s self titled “Nervus Rex”. The release met with little success and
the band continued playing in clubs for several more years before breaking up in the
        early 80’s.
 After the band’s demise, Agnelli joined the Washington Squares, a new generation beat
folkgroup who released several LP’s and earned a Grammy nomination. She went on to
play with the Dave Rave Experience and sang on an album by Brave Combo. More
recently she has enjoyed a solo career with a CD release in 2004.
