(Bradenton, FL. – June 17, 2009) Team members of the American League Champion Tampa Bay Rays
donate a portion of their salary to the Rays Baseball Foundation to support youth and education programs in
the Tampa Bay region. In Manatee County, the players’ generosity resulted in a donation of $5,000 to help
fund Baseball Math, a program which uses baseball concepts and statistics to make learning math fun. The
money for Baseball Math was provided from the Rays Baseball Foundation in cooperation with the Manatee
Education Foundation.

Some of the players who donated portions of their salaries and team President Matt Silverman were on hand
when Manatee Education Foundation Director Mary Glass received the check from the Rays Baseball
Foundation at Tropicana Field. A photo from that event is being sent with this media release.

The curriculum for Baseball Math was developed by James Schoedler, PhD, a physical education teacher at
Freedom Elementary in Manatee County. For more information on Baseball Math or the Manatee Education
Foundation, contact Mary Glass at 941-708-8770, ext. 2148.
