Mundo Latino Anuncia Su Apoyo a Barack Obama La redacción de Mundo Latino quiere anunciar su apoyo al Candidato Presidencial del Partido Demócrata Barack Obama para el Caucus del tres de Enero DEL 2008 en Iowa. Nosotros sentimos que él es el candidato más favorable para los latinos. Teniendo un origen de inmigrante y de minoría sentimos que es el que más se identifica con la Comunidad Latina. Sus puntos de vista sobre la reforma migratoria son positivos, alcanzables y se apegan a la realidad. Su enfoque sobre la educación es el más amigable para la comunidad Latina. Barack Obama cree que nuestro sistema educativo debe ser reformado para cumplir con las necesidades que resultan del incremento de población de entornos diversos. Obama trabajará para evitar que los jóvenes

deserten de las escuelas y hacer responsables a las escuelas de enseñarles Inglés a los niños. Obama apoya el Acta Dream (Desarollo, Alivio, y Educación para Menores Extranjeros) que permite a estudiantes indocumentados pagar colegiaturas más bajas. Barack Obama cree que los inmigrantes legales que han peleado por nosotros en el exterior deben tener un camino a la ciudadanía más acelerado. Obama cree que nuestro sistema de inmigración fracturado sólo puede ser reparado al colocar la política a un lado y ofrecer una solución que asegure nuestra frontera, refuerze nuestras leyes y reafirme nuestro patrimonio como una nación de inmigrantes. Hay cerca de 14 millones de Latinos sin cobertura médica. Obama está comprometido a firmar una legislación al término de su primer mandato en la presidencia que asegure que todos los Americanos tengan una alta calidad en el cuidado de la salud y que sea accesible para todos. Su plan expandirá el acceso al seguro médico, lograr que más Latinos se enfoquen a la profesión médica e incrementará la competencia cultural en los trabajadores del cuidado de la salud. Obama aumentará el salario mínimo, apoyará a familias de bajos ingresos, protegerá el Seguro Social y luchará para que más Latinos sean dueños de sus propios hogares. Obama apoya fondos para programas de entrenamiento del trabajo y la provisión de capital para propietarios de negocios minoritarios. También trabajará para proporcionar a inmigrantes más acceso a servicios bancarios. Barack Obama reforzará nuestra relación con los más de 500 millones de personas quienes viven en América Latina. El candidato Demócrata se opuso a la guerra con Iraq desde un principio y ha presentado una legislación que comenzaría retirando paulatinamente a nuestras tropas de combate. Su plan se enfoca en alcanzar una solución política en Irak, protegiendo nuestros intereses en la región llegando al fin de la guerra. Sentimos que Barack Obama es el que más simpatiza con los puntos de vista y preocupaciones de nuestros lectores y de la Comunidad Latina como un todo. Sentimos que él tiene las cualidades necesarias para implementar sus ideas y de verdad lograr los cambios. Debemos de hacer hincapié en que a pesar de todas las buenas ideas de Obama nada cambiará sin su participación en el proceso electoral y la ejerción de su VOTO. Juntos podemos hacer la diferencia para beneficio nuestro y de nuestros hijos. Así que defendamos lo que creemos y hagamos escuchar nuestra voz este 3 de enero del 2008 acudiendo al Caucus. Esperamos que usted se una al caucus y vaya a votar el jueves 3 de enero a las 6:30 p.m.

The editorial board of Mundo Latino announces its endorsement of candidate Barack Obama for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination at the Iowa caucus on January 3, 2008. We believe he is the best candidate for Latinos. Being of immigrant and minority roots, he is, we feel, the candidate that most identifies with the Latino community. His views on immigration reform are positive, feasible and realistic. His approach to education is the most Latino-friendly. Barack Obama believes our educational system must be changed so that it meets the needs of an increasingly diverse population. Obama will work to prevent young people from dropping out of school and hold schools accountable for teaching children English. Obama supports the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors, or DREAM Act, which allows undocumented students to pay in-state tuition at public colleges. Barack Obama believes legal immigrants who have served abroad in the U.S. military should enjoy a fasttrack to citizenship. Obama believes that our broken immigration system can only be fixed by putting politics aside and coming up with a solution that secures our borders, upholds our laws and reaffirms our heritage as a nation of immigrants. Close to 14 million Latinos have no health insurance. Obama is committed to signing legislation by the end of his first term that ensures high-quality, affordable health care for all Americans. His plan would expand access to health insurance, steer more Latinos to health careers and increase the cultural competence of health care workers. Obama will raise the minimum wage, support low-income families, protect Social Security and work to enable more Latinos to own their homes. Obama supports funding job-training programs and loans for minority business owners. He will also work to provide immigrants with better access to banking services. Barack Obama will strengthen our relationship with the more than 500 million people who live in Latin America. The Democratic candidate opposed the Iraq war from the start and has introduced legislation that would begin the gradual withdrawal of our combat troops. His plan focuses on achieving a political solution in Iraq, protecting our interests in the region and ending the war. We believe Barack Obama is the most sympathetic to the views and concerns of our readers and of the Latino community as a whole. We believe he possesses the skills needed to implement his ideas and bring about real change. We must stress that despite all of Obama’s good ideas, nothing will change without your involvement in the election process and the exercise of your VOTE. Together, we can make a difference for ourselves and our children. Therefore, let us stand up for what we believe and make our voices heard on Jan. 3, 2008, by going to caucus. We hope you caucus on Thursday, Jan. 3, at 6:30 p.m.
