A categorical grant was given to LaPorte County Parks Department for the expansion and restoration of Red Mill county Park. How much money is involved? $200,000.00 was awarded in a federal grant. What was the purpose for the grant? The purpose was for development of the park. How did the recipients apply for the grant? They applied for the grant by writing to the federal government explaining the decreased public funding has hurt the development and maintenance of the park. They received the grant because of the necessity of parks near cities and the condition the park was in when the grant was applied for. How was the grant administered? The grant was used to buy more land for the park, rehab an old building into an Environmental Education Center, and for general needed maintenance of the park. I do believe that the grant served a legitimate purpose and it was used for what it was supposed to be used for.
