Overview: This course gives an extensive insight into the production of 2-D drawings (as over) using AutoCAD 2006. Learn how to create new drawings, edit existing drawings and plot drawings onto paper. The course is entirely practical with a hands-on approach (see following for syllabus). Candidate: The course is designed for the new or novice AutoCAD user. Pre-requisite: General knowledge of design and drafting concepts is helpful, but not essential. Also, familiarity with use of computer keyboard and mouse. An introductory session will be available for those with no previous computer experience. Please ask for details. Achievement: On successful completion of the course, you will be able to draw and modify a simple 2D drawing. Course Fee: € 960 per person

Learn to: • Start AutoCAD, navigate the user interface, access menus, dialog boxes, toolbars / tool pallettes and on-line help, set parameters for a drawing session Create drawings files, open existing drawings, save changes to existing drawings and exit AutoCAD. Use templates to create new drawings files that contain standard settings, customize AutoCAD drawing settings, calculate size of drawings area and use drawing aids. Use layer to control the colour, linetype and visibility of objects in drawings. Use display commands and control the view of objects displayed in the drawing window. Use AutoCAD draw commands to create objects that can be edited or modified. Use object snaps to reference specific locations on selected objects and ensure quality and accuracy in the drawing process. Use AutoCAD modify commands to simplify the drawing process, increase drawing productivity and logically structure and avoid repetitive drawing. Use inquiry commands to provide database information for selected objects, display the status of the drawing and document the time that is spent working on the drawing. Use a number of annotation techniques to present text, dimensions, notes and titles to drawings. Place dimensions in drawings that conform to local and national standards. Use blocks to combine organize and manipulate several objects as a single object and use them to reduce drawing file size. Plot drawings onto paper at different scales and use layouts to prepare drawing sheets with scaled viewports to enhance the plotting process.
