Law Students: Ecojustice (Formerly Sierra Legal) offers a unique student experience, focusing on environmental law. Ecojustice is looking for a Law student for the Summer term (May to August 2009). It is a four month placement in our Toronto office. We offer a competitive salary in comparison with other NGOs. Ecojustice will also accept additional applications from funded individuals.
Description of Duties:
Ecojustice Canada is Canada's foremost public interest environmental law organization, providing litigation services to the environmental community across the country. You will join a hard-working, friendly team that uses a multidisciplinary approach involving lawyers, scientists and volunteers. You will make a valuable contribution to ongoing environmental activism by:
providing legal assistance to lawyers and scientists working on environmental law and policy issues; conducting legal, policy and general research and preparing legal memoranda, primarily in the areas of environmental and administrative law; assisting in researching and writing Ecojustice Canada reports; providing general litigation support (assisting in drafting pleadings and submissions, preparing briefs of authorities, etc.); assisting with requests for information and reviews under the Freedom of Information Act; attending meetings and conferences and assisting field investigations; interacting with clients and non-governmental environmental organizations; and, taking inquiries from members of the public about environmental law disputes.
Preferred Qualifications: familiarity with environmental and administrative law awareness of environmental issues interested in working in the public interest arena
